here is a tank from a movie, the screen was about
6 foot long in all the shots


There is still a lot of room for improvement - I is
bright enough - but what if it were brighter -
not more light, but use the light better - I may get
a condenser lens - Its way more than bright enough
as it is tho

I may paint the box from the LCD back to the Lamp
flat white - and front flat black - the box is a shinny black
inside - the wooden brackets could use some work
and I need to fix the light getting out of the fans

I am going to add a set of computer speakers to
the box - for when I have to take the projector
some ware

I need to patch the ugly hole were the LCD sits
- I had to cut so I could adjust the LCD with
it on - I will use a piece of metal and cut / shape
it to fit - I will also mount the controls for the computer
Speakers there - I think

I thought there would be a bit of dark around the edge -
but there was not and my home made focus worked great

Tomorrow I am going to get some CAT 5 cable
for making extra long VGA cable, about
25 foot long, I will be using the most
shielded cable I can find like ScTP or FTP
cable

I need to get some eye hooks and mount them
on the side and use bunge cords with hooks
to hold to the ceiling

I had it on for 5 hours and it did not even get warm
to the touch on the outside of the box

I think it took about 30+ or so hours to get this far
I would recommend that some one build from better
plans than mine - But using the trunk is a good Idea,
I was never able to make a box out of wood, I
would always mess it up and it be lop sided.
Using a pre made box cuts the work in half

that 800x600? what does it cut off? right hand side? do you know how many pixels (even approx.) Looks like a good image anyhow.

It'd be great not having an overhead that sounds like a jet taking off in my room lol. Hows the noise level? You run 4 fans all up?, plus the internal ones on the panel?

I'll probably just go with mdf. My uncles a carpenter so he's got all the gear to do it right, and if I get in trouble he can bail me out lol.

bodgy...a good way to reduce some of the unwanted fan noise aside from using a Potentiometer to reduce voltage to the fans is to rubber mount them ... this eliminates the vibration and greatly reduces noise

HOLY CR@P THATS BRIGHT - I am using dark sunglasses

Heya Will, im glad you like the lamp, bright arent they? lol mind your eyes buddy and your skin, the uv out of these bulbs will fry your skin and eyes in no time. The bulb i use has the UV filter in it so i dont get a tan from it at all suprisingly. If you need a reflector for that lamp let me know, i may have sitting around for it 🙂.

Not sure on pixels - I seams to cut a border all around the image
at 800x600 - the panel does works at 720x486 I think thats
DVD rez or some Hi rez Video standard

The image was 640x480 60hz - the fans on the panel you can't
hear, but the 12v fans you can, but its no more than a AC on
low, the 120v is super quiet - I was thinking about using a lower
power supply like a 11v or 10v to quiet the 12v fans

I went to Radio Shack and Staples for the Cat 5 shielded cable
and no one had any - and Radio Shack did not even have the VGA
connectors - I guess I will have to order them and the cable

I wish they had have a UV warning in the ballast
or lamp - I am going to print up a few stickers
warning about UV light - and put them on the
Projector - my friends have kids and I my put
a lock on it also

No its actually quite easy.

Regarding the uv from your bulb, you can buy bulbs with a UV stop, you need to purchase a HQI-TSD for the version with the uv stop built in.

Ok I give, how - I looked on the internet
and had some price shock $2000 to $3000+
I am guessing thats not what your talking about

That cost more than my Car did

I want to keep it down to like $30 or $40


- I am re doing the light placement - trying to get it
just perfect - and moving things around to see if I can get
it any better right now before I bolt every thing down
and leave it that way

Heya Will, bear in mind you have to make this unit yourself, it will cost about $90 for vga and $30 for an rca video input.

Rat Shack usually has the VGA connectors in the slidey drawer thingy in the back where they keep all the resistors. Look for the 15 pin D-sub connectors.

720x480 is NTSC dvd, 720x576 is PAL.

There are other lower res formats such as 352x480/352x576, 352x240/352x288, 704x480/704x576, etc....

Rat Shack usually has the VGA connectors in the slidey drawer thingy

I went to 2 radio shacks here and nether one had metal hoods or
female connectors - the local radio shacks are crap here and never
have any thing but toys and junk

I did find a place local that sells CAT5 STP for 2 foot for $1

I had it working good - then I messed with it
I have not ben able to get it lined up the way
it was

I am having trouble keeping the box from flexing
I should have made a metal frame to keep the box
from flexing - next time - I will use wood or metal

I Put the guts back in the old OHP for now untill I
have more time - I want to watch some TV

Its just on hold for now

Here is the last pic of the trunk - before I messed it up
- I am going with MkIII plans - and am going to get the kit
- I have a friend that runs a computer shop - I am going to
let him have the box and OHP when I am done and keep
my light

He wants to make one and I am going to help him - when and if
we get it done, I will share pics of it - I think using a metal
frame mounted in the box is the way to go
