It seems i will have to investigate Zappa a little more. The white album is wicked. Its too bad i wasnt around when it came out so i could enjoy it the way it wasnt meant to be enjoyed.

Classical Zappa?
Orchestral, yes. Classical not quite in my book, but I agree it was very interesting musically. I didn't appreciate Zappa's music as much as his lyrics until I started trying to play bass at 40.
I had a crate full of albums before the white album came out, too. NP must have been a late bloomer 😉

The funny part about Zappa is that everyone assumes that being stoned was the intended state. But Zappa himslef claimed to never indulge himslef, so I'm not so sure that is where he was aiming his content. I think that the sick sense of humor mixed with the incredibly complicated and intricate songwriting made him a treat for the focused intellectual mind. I really don't know too many stoners who get Zappa.

Dave, you forgot the "F" word
also available from Solen,
plenty of suggestions for simple FR mono or bipoles, MLTL or TQWP on the FullRange speaker forum - including several designs by the Frugal-phile hisself, and Tim Forman
definitely recommended

Well if you want highly articulate but boring speakers with not a whole lot of dynamics... perhaps.
I know Solen well (i'm a dealer). For open baffle build it around a single Visaton B200 per side. Add a tweeter -- i'll have to look to see if anything other than LCY, and a couple BIG bass drivers on the bottom (actually i was very happy with the B200s by themselves and one could certainly start there and grow the system)

Re: ..ostex
Definitely some class Fostex stuff... not sure how open baffle friendly they would be, but if you are just using one as a mid-tweeter, you should be able to assemble somethng stellar (ie like the Basszilla) or Bart's FE166ESR/JBL units.

Currently I am using the FE166E in the Kleinhorns with a
voltage source and no EQ at all, just the right amount of
stuffing in the chamber, and it's probably the best they've
sounded yet.

That was the Beatles White Album. How old do you think I am
anyway?
