My Fostex FF85Wk in a ported boxes does it get any better?

So here is my Alpair 5.3 generation 3. David you never told me how awesome these little gems look. I can't wait to use them. Now for the woofer search? I am very impressed on how these look drivers look. 😁. Am glad I don't have small children around. To nervous all these.years..now I don't have.to.worry. So am very excited.to build the tyson. The RS225-8 is an excellent woofer for a FAST system. It has exceptionally wide bandwidth so you can easily cross as high as 900Hz even. But 300Hz is no problem. They are relatively cost effective too for having such low distortion and high Xmax.

I wouldn’t go smaller than 8in for a woofer to help out a full range. 6.5in just isn’t enough IMO.

We have done more than 1 design with 2 x 6.5, they make no excuses.

And if you can use a pair push-push you get huge advantages in terms of reduced box-vibrational-load.

There are too many compromises one needs to make, and far too much variation in driver capability to make the generazation you have X.

I haven’t used them, but was very impressed with the boxes they were in at the 1999 AES in NYNY. Always wanted to play with some.

Dave, they are worth trying and imho the $100 is still a deal.

I just posted in another thread where someone got them at the $20 price. I will copy my post from there here as well.

These are awesome. Leave them full range and add tweeter first order at 10khz as Fostex does with the NF1 passive. Or use them up to 5-8-10kHz with whatever crossover you prefer.
Even at $100 they are still deal.
The FW168hr cousin is €415/$500 (in Europe-audio) and the new Japanese Alnico mode with the same technology is like $2000

The FW168hr woofer with the same technology: https://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/speaker_components/pdf/fw168hprev.pdf

I have a few pairs of the NX6 monitors and the original NF1 versions. They are worth it. And the woofers are way higher quality than most of Fostex’es speakers for diy lines.

Here are t/s parameters of the woofer of the NF1. I believe this one will be quite similar:

Fs = 55, Hz
Qms = 2,183
Vas = 10,71 liters
Cms = 0,589 mm/N
Mms = 14,21 g
Rms = 2,249 kg/s
P-Dia = 120, mm
Sd = 113,1 sq.cm
Qes = 0,487
Re = 6,2 ohms
Z = 8, ohms
BL = 7,906 Tm
Qts = 0,398
no = 0,353 %
1-W SPL = 87,68 dB
2.83-V SPL = 88,78 dB

Hope that helps

Edit: I now noticed the other guy has attached his measured ts in the other thread: Exploring Purifi Woofer Speaker Builds

Thanks for giving us some insight on the NF1 Fostex drivers. I would expect them to be one of their higher quality and parts. I can say that the FE108eāˆ‘ is a step up in all areas next to the FE126En drivers... I did a test side by side. Same music same movie scene. The FF series from Fostex is one of my favorite's due to a little laid back but the dust cap seems to add a little extra highness that almost ( to my ears ) is the best all.around full range drivers..Plus there's no wizzer.cone... I have had a lot of pairs of the fostex FF85WK drivers. I got some Mark audio drivers and we'll see how they match up to the fostex drivers? Thanks again for posting. Sorry such a long post. I wanted to explain where I was coming from. Jeff
