My Fostex FF85Wk in a ported boxes does it get any better?

I dropped some 3" computer speakers into a Woden Lance "baby labyrinth" enclosure that I built. I am not set up to make measurements, but the bass is surprisingly deep, clean, and satisfying. The Lance was actually designed for the FF85wk so the results might equal or surpass your bass reflex design (which looks really nice!). Good luck in your quest!

Thanks for the compliment. Yes I know there are better boxes out there to squeeze the most out of the Fostex FF85wk drivers. I know like my dad is always said to me. There's always more than one way to skin a cat. Jeff

Jeffrey, another decent mid-bass performer that delivers great bang for the buck would be the Silver Flute 6.5” wool/paper blend cones. Madisound has the 16ohm version on sale for $22USD. A pair per side in combination with the Fostex should yield a still amp friendly approx 4ohm load should you want to go passive with a single stereo amp.

Thanks Chrisb. Yes silver flute is hard to beat for the price. I will look into it. Hay if I put the two woofers in parallel won't they be 8 ohms? Jeff

Sadly that Silver Flute is almost unfoundable here in Europe, and the one shop that has it asks 92€ for it... For that price we got better option. But in the US this is cheap for such a driver.

im using the fostex ff105wk. in my minimus realistic cab, the ff105wk rolls off around 120hz. I supplement them with a REL T5 making the FR flat from 40hz to 20khz.

the surprising thing is how loud they can get without sounding compressed even without high-pass filter.

Some definite magic going on with those small fostex drivers

Interested in your impressions of how the system would sound if you’re able to arrange some line-level HP on the Fostex. As graceful as you think they might be without such, I’d opine that it’d be well worth the effort - at least I’d always found it so.

With REL subs, if you go the hi-level input way, its impossible to add a high pass effectively. and i really prefer the sound of the REL when connected hi level input.

and that system is really for background music, not loud. basically never go past 80 db, so not sure how much it would help.

I ordered the Mark Audio Alpair 5.3 drivers in gray from Madisound. I'm looking at a 8 ohm 6 1/2 driver's for the sides that have a paper sound..I will know more this coming weekend to see if they are still available at their sale price? Jeff

I tired to paste a link with my new phone. Ugh. I can send you the link in your planet 10 E mail Dave. Tell me what you think ?Jeff

NX-6A. I assume 6”. These (or similar) were used in a fantastic little 2-way. Even less than the W14. Get 4.

Some sort of measure will be needed as a starting point for getting the right box load.

So here's the update. Ugh so full compass parts got back with me and said they can order more of these drivers for me. The problem is they said that the price is out dated and now are full price. Now that's a bunch of trash. So now am looking at drivers again. Jeff
