My first Tannoy Autograph

My humble self and my heir, planning ahead...

You are very kind... 🙂

Qi: very funny 😡
I bet you will look worse when you build your own 😀

If I could build 'em like that, I'd be a happy man.
Well, it's all about finding good woodworkers to do the cuts. Some pieces were done "by measure", as particularly the front foldings had some tolerance...
In fact the hard part is having perseverance 😉

I'm at work now. Tonight or tomorrow I will start the front horn. After that all will be straighforward.

Appart my historic recordings ( a pitty that we are so very few who like golden age artists 🙁 ) I saw 2 monoaural movies yesterday:
"divorzio á l'italiana" with Mastroiani, excellent black humour film; "á plein soleil", with Alain Delon, excellent suspense film. I believe that "the excellent Mr Ripley" or whatever the tittle, is a "remake" of the later film.

I will keep you updated.
Many thanks for your support and interest.

Sorry guys 😀
I meant appart the 3 of us! :clown:

Last night I really moved forward. Today I'm at work so no further advances. Tomorrow I expect to have the second unit in functional state.

I think they really must be corner mounted: when I prolong lateral walls with wood panels it becomes a different speaker! Much more robust and engaging.

Today I will make longer interconnects to put the amps next to the speakers. My quick and dirthy recipe that, as usual, no one wants to try: balanced IC's made of three braided leads of OCC copper (they claim 120 meter copper christals) , 20AWG, solid core, teflon-PVC, then more "bathroom grade" teflon film, then aluminium foil.
OCC copper is US$0.36/ft at parts connexion and sounds good to me as hookup wire ( signal or low V power) and of course IC.
The sound is balanced thoughout the spectrum, with nice colorful midrange and quite good HF for copper. I have made IC's with braided 26AWG wich is more detailed but lacks some midrange warmth. It could be a brake-in issue I think.
I comment all this for you to consider this very inexpensive way of making IC's for, say, a second system or a little brother. Much better than mic cable and less risky than silver/copper wire.

Stay tuned 😉

Hi,
have you started listening? Seems the build is still ongoing or is that a second one?

Can you confirm the bass horn dimensions:- area throat, area mouth flare rate, length of horn.

How much extra are you expecting from the corner loading? Half octave or more?

Did you use any software to predict the response?

Tannoy surrounds

Hello, Guys:

Great project...I hope that they deliver all the sound you expect and deserve!

On a sad note, though...both of the foam surrounds on the woofers of my Westminsters have started to crack. Anybody know of a repair shop in the US that can handle refoaming these? The last time I checked, Tannoy wanted >$1000 to do the job.

Best wishes,
David

Dear Andrew, DAvid and Choky.
I was writing a very long answer but this F*** computer went crazy and it disapeared! 😡

Now, briefly:

Did you use any software to predict the response?
I lack and wouldn't know how to use them 🙁 As these are classic enclosures I trusted Tannoy's specs:

See right column for specs. See below for diagrams.

Can you confirm the bass horn dimensions:- area throat, area mouth flare rate, length of horn.

Area for external mouth is: 21cm * 138 cm *2= 5796 square cm ?.
Area for throat would be: (19 cm *28 cm) + 9cm*4.5cm + 10cm*10cm= 672.5 square cm (?)
Rear horn lenght is difficult: maybe around 2.3m.

have you started listening? Seems the build is still ongoing or is that a second one?

Yes this is the second one. Allow me to answer you later  as this was the longer part on my lost answer :bawling:

Sad to hear that. You can try Yahoo Tannoy group I think.
seriously-I'll made them ,as soon I find few adequate drivers ........
I believe you :devilr:
Above are the links. Google also at tannoy bigpond. Today I couldn't find them I can email you some.
Beyma's are good drivers.
See specs:
