Fs 28hz on a pro driver.... What's the make and model#? I'd be interested in taking a look at them.
slowmotion said:Hi all
IMHO it's better to use a separate sub if your baffles don't go low enough.
cheers 😉
I'm going for this setup. The dipoles are finished and I'm very impressed by the sound. The drivers are Eminence Delta 15LF.
A pair of JBL SUB1500 are going to take care of the deepest bass.

Hi johninCR, all
They're TAD 1601s,
so need eq to go low on open baffles.
More suited to vented boxes, really,
but sound much better to my ears on baffles.
I have tried different woofers,
but they all have the same problem,
when you eq them to go low on open baffles
the distortion go sky high 😉
So some sort of sub below 50Hz is much better IMHO.
YMMV, and all that 😀
cheers 😉

Frode,
Those speakers look really nice,
I bet they sound pretty good, too 😉
And with those JBLs down below
they're probably even better 🙂

After reading so much positive about OB bass, I just had to try it. It's nice that cheap drivers can be used with good results, the 4 Deltas cost me approx. the same as one of the 2226H I used before. Besides, the high Qts reduces the need for a big baffle. I'm looking forward to experiment with subwoofers in my setup.

18" Warrior
Has someone had some experience withe the 18" Warrior mentioned in this thread? Seems a very good deal and dipole friendly and they go up to where I need (250hz).
I would also like to know if 1 per side of this 18"-er in a medium sized H-frame can NICELY fill up a 25mt² room down to 30-35 (don`t really think I need to go lower)

I think my JBL 2235 15"ers and my Stage Accompany 1203's 12" ers will both work. What do some of you think? I have 4 of each. I don't want to screw up here. How much quicker and more transparent are OB's than say a corner horn. Has anyone tried using a digital processer like a Deqx from Austrailia found at E-Speakers. It's an EQ, Time alighn, Phase corecter, Room equalizer and X-over. It sounds like it would take care of most every problem that can arise.

RMS: 2 * 250 watt (2x4ohm)

I then use only 1x4ohm and get 2xqts = 0,88
qts 0,88
Fs 21 hz

Wingman,
You raised a good point that I'm surprized hasn't been discussed before and that is the advantage of using dual voice coil drivers.
I believe it is shorting the second voice coil that in turn doubles the Qes and which raises the Qts accordingly. Adire Audio recommends a 250ohm variable potentiameter for putting accross the terminals of the unused coil to make the Qes widely adjustable.

That's what I would have thought too, but that's not what Adire says. See http://www.adireaudio.com/Files/TempestWhitePaper.pdf go to pages 4 and 10
After reading page 10 I think they have a Qes typo on page 4, and open is correct for essentially double the Qts unless shorting it halves it with the extra damping.

I have cheap woofer:
qts 1.36
qes 1.75
qms 6.17
Fs 32.2hz
Can anyone design me recommened box(for 1 woofer should be I baffle?)
-I worked with dipole .xls, but it has some xy data(Fpeak...)

DEQX or
Wingman
You asked, re I think the DEQX: link pleas !
Bad news - $US 3000!

I wonder how much better it is than a Behringer Ultracurve PRO DEQ2496 for $US 340, or the dbx Driverack 260 or PA ($800??)

Put some books or something under the magnet to prop it up and use a cardboard baffle and give it a listen. Try flat, folded, H baffle and see what you like best. A few minutes, some cardboard duct tape is all you need. Forget about being scientific and trust your ears, this is dipole, not a box.
cardboard an books?
Is this a joke?
No! Welcome to the wonderful world of open baffle 'design'!

Dean,
It's not a joke. It's not something I'd encourage for a permanent baffle because it's not very stable. For something to experiment with in determining baffle shape and size, it's perfect. Cheap, flexible, easy to cut, and changes can be made in seconds. For small light weight drivers, forget the books and just tape them in.
