I am truly sorry for your loss. Your Dad sounds like a remarkable man. On a very selfish note, your post caused me to think about my own father, who passed away in 2004 at 83; for that, I thank you.
Life is harder without your father, but I think he prepared you well for the task.

I'm sorry to hear of this happening. Death sucks for those left behind. Not so much for the dead. At least they have been relieved from this hell. I will never know your type of loss. Lovingly remember the time you spent together...always.
 
Once again, thank you to you all, your support means a lot to me. I was feeling pretty bad Wednesday night when I posted this, I think because of the suddenness and violence of his passing. Receiving your words of encouragement really helped me.
 
Sorry to be catching up to this so late.

My dad died of a massive coronary on a business trip when I was in grad school. I don't think you ever get over the shock, and the sadness persists.

As time passes, however, your memories of the best times are burnished and become more indelibly fixed.
