Pretty straight forward. Good documentation, well packaged kit, and good support (I had swapped the power and ground connections.)
It's powered by 18 rechargeable AA batteries (in the penguin tin) and cased in some scrap wood and a piece of plexiglass scavenged from an old document holder. I was impatient this time... next time maybe I'll try some finger joints or dovetails. As is, the plexiglass was a little undersized so I used some more scraps to bridge the gap and got a nice press fit. The slots were already there in the scrap and they're not necessary, but I figure a little venting won't hurt.

Not sure what you're saying would be an issue. But i have no problems with hum or anything else that might be mitigate by a metallic enclosure.
The atmosphere is full of radio waves which will be picked up by the each and every component and wire exposed to it. Now, it may not be a problem, but try your moble nearby and see.

Could you tell us a little about the sound and performance of this preamp. Have you used any other preamps you could compare it to? I am looking at building one of these myself and I am not sure if I should go with this, a tetra or an aikido phono preamp.
