You're absolutely right mvs0, it does have very low distortion in simulation as well. Apart from the insertion loss, the other potential issue is the low impedance of around 850 ohms, but if the source can handle it and the insertion loss isn't a problem, it's a pretty neat solution.

If your amplifier has some form of volume control you can get rid of this stage.
Without it the insertion loss would be less than 3dB.
