A couple more questions, if you don't mind --
- you mentioned over in your head-fi thread your site links to that there are plans for an 'uber' controller -- something to control the volume inside the Wolfson DAC chip, and I see you've mentioned above using a microcontroller and being happy with it. It's a route I'd be interested in, but wondering if you do still have a plan for such a product, and if so when..? I've never had any luck with pots, prefer not to leave it to the PC to handle volume and don't want the added stage of a PGA2310 or something....
- for an LCDPS and LCBPS (for Opus and Ballsie) I have a couple of new and unused transformers in the parts bin gathering dust -- both Plitron 160VA 18v+18v (spec'd at 19.59v no-load) -- very slightly overkill 😉 on the rating I know but is the voltage too high??

1) Yes, there is something in the works. 🙂 I will try to keep you folks posted.

Well I am working actively on it as time permits. My guess is in the next 1-3mos, but thats only a guess. There are several pieces to the puzzle. I have a couple of the major pieces designed. I just have to try everything out together, and then put it together (and document it) in a way that is approachable to most folks.

Yes, I have, it works very well. No complaints. It seems to retain all of its pleasant attributes when used with the digital volume control.
I don't know if anyone else has yet or not.

The DAC (as far as I remember correctly) can be muted and the volume can be controlled with an microcontroller, using the build in interface. It has to be done by a micrcontroller since it is a specific protocoll (do not remember it correctly - I2C - not the I2S).

I believe the onboard volume control has to be done through the two wire serial interface.
Not sure where I got them actually, but even Mouser has them.

Dont expect anything before winter – will be a bigger project 😉

I am looking for advice on A/D converters - maybe somebody here knows about a superb sounding A/D converter chip ... e.g. 20-24 bit at e.g. 400 kHz sampling frequency (or, if not possible at 192 kHz) w/o internal filters, oversampling or digital conversions?
Or a low-order (e.g. second or third order) delta-sigma A/D converter capable of operating at 11,289 MHz and with a "straigthforward"/standardized output? Again without internal conversions of any kind...
I'm looking for a design having the potential for outstanding sound - not necessarily the best possible data.
Suggestions are appreciated

I am one (little step) further in planning for my DAC (OPUS, Metrnome, USB, prob. SPDIF).
Now I am thinking about the power supply:
Is 2*9v for the DAC sufficient? And how should it be spend?
9v for Controller, SPDIF and DAC, 9v for DAC analogue & metronome or
9v for Controller, SPDIF, DAC Metronome and 9v for DAC analogue?
The 9v will of course be regulated to something like 8v/5v respectively (The OPUS, Metronome and SPDIF have regulators for smaller voltage on board?!)
