Oh and hi Russ btw long time.. 🙂 And yes I will be getting me an OPUS sometime 😉
/Tobias
Feel free to swing by and listen to mine when you are in the Stockholm area. It will be fully loaded as soon as my metronome module arrives.

Hehe, does your iron ever cool down Mattias?
Sure if I have the time I would like to hear the OPUS, maybe I should bring my HD650 and try out the MAX/OPUS combo? 🙂

On that note, guess what this is for...

Hi Brian,
I am thinking of buying the same 16x3" case from Par-metal, like the one you are using.
I will have them punch out a couple D-holes for Neutrik jacks on the back panel. Do you have drawings of your back-panel with dimensions, by any chance?
Thanks!

Actually, I used a 12x12x3 case. I have an eDrawings file of the rear panel (attached), which was milled from 3/8" plate.

Aha, would this thing be the same size as the rest of your stuff? 🙂
Cheers

That's what I am shooting for. 🙂
Hi Brian,
I did not see the attachment for rear panel drawings. Is it my Internet Explorer setting, or did you forget to attach it? 😕
Thanks!

Hmmm... removed the .txt, but it refused to open using IE.
BTW - looks like you have a 16x12x3 case in this picture (Parmetal P/N 20-16123x):

Oh, that one. That's my X-BoSoZ. I thought you meant my Opus... http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/user_gallery/_burning_dac/DSCN8725.JPG
Try installing the viewer and opening the file with File/Open...
Can't remember how I got it working...

Hi Russ,
Do you think it is critical to use 75 ohm-type RCA chassis jack for the SPDIF input to the Opus (versus using regular RCA jack)?

Hooked up my metronome, some impressions
Hi All,
I've been listening to my opus/balsie combo SE out for about a week and a half now. It sounded great right of the get go, and certainly seems to have improved after letting it play for a while. Very detailed and natural, deep and wide sound stage, very good imaging. Certainly kills my other CD players. Well tonite I hooked up a metronome to it, I followed the jumper setup that Russ had posted earlier and in the opus support section. I didn't really expect very much, maybe just a subtle improvement. It turned out to more than subtle, it was a clearly audible improvement in my system. Vocals are smoother and it improved everything else as well. Highly recommended.

No. Any RCA is fine. You could even use a different connector type if you want.

You can but then your spdif input won't be terminated at 75ohm. Some people can hear this. Not that 75ohm rca jacks actually exist.
Along the same line just noticed the WM8804 Schmitt trigger input is connected directly (without a separate line receiver/buffer) to the spdif signal
I guess bits is bits 😉

The SPDIF signal is terminated to 75ohm at the PCB, so I am not sure (I am not an expert here) if terminating it to 75 ohms up stream by 5 or 10 inches (or whatever) makes any difference.
What I can tell you is the WM8804 is a very nice sounding part. They seem to have put together a good one over at Wolfson. And it has the very nice benefit of being a transceiver. 🙂
Cheers!

Canare makes a 75-ohm RCA chassis jack:

But the cutout hole pattern is slightly different from Neutrik's, and they don't come in black to match the Neutrik.
Cheap easy wireless?
I wonder if anyone has tried using a wireless video sender (2.4 or 5.8ghz) to transmit SPDIF.
I have thought about it, but not tried it yet.
That would be a cheap easy way to do multi room audio.
Cheers!

Use the Neutrik, if that's what you are trying to match. I don't think these "75-ohm type" jacks actually have a 75ohm terminator in them.
