I'm in the same search for a cartridge at the time. I'm already using an AT110E but going for something more. Most probably a Grado Prestige Gold, or Ortofon 2M Blue.
Generally speaking, all Grados are high compliance carts and Ortofon 2M series looks good as well.

I have gone for a 2M red, but still haven't finished the plinth for my Lenco yet, so it's on the end of my SME 3009/Kenwood KD500 combo at the moment. Sounds very nice, different to the 1042 that I usually have on there. Not better or worse, just different. My Grace arm also needs a rewire, which I am waiting for a quite couple of hours to do. I have tried a few AT's in the past, and yes they are OK for the price, but the 2M red is amazing value for £60. The compliance, mass and tracking weight also make it a good match for the Grace on paper, so I am looking forward to trying it out.
@NJE807...
I'll probably go for the Blue(if not for a Grado), so I'll come back with listening impressions. Since I decided to rewire Grace too, do you have any info on the cable pinout? It ends to 5 pins with no names...should be R+, R-, L+, L- and GND but which one is which? 🙂

Hi, as you see the connector's back side(soldering side),center top is the Ground.Bottom left pin is the R+ and between them is the R- Right bottom pin is the L+ and between that and ground is the L-
Efharisto file Paniko! It is exactly as you describe it. I have already found it using a multimeter to find shorts between the headshell pins and the DIN-5 female plug pins.
Do you happen to own a Grace 707 tonearm? If this is the case, what cartridge have you attached to it?

Parakalw. No,I'm not using a Grace tonearm,I just had one or two for repair.I supose that it will work well with a high compliance cartridge as it is a low mass arm.Are you thinking to go for a MM or MC?
I have just now seen that you are thinking of an ortofon Blue,I have not had the chance to listen to one,but I guess it is a safe choice, and I'm sure that it must be one of the best in that price. The Grace used to be a good match to the Supex MC's when mounted on a Linn,so I don't see why it will not work ok with a modern MC too.A careful choice of a MC cartridge might give very good results.Do you remember Grace's effective mass?

Yes, it is 7gr. Theoretically it does not match to any MC since most of them are low compliance. In contrast to this, the Grace+Supex 900 MC is, as you say, a famous match and I also remember people writing good words about what Grace does with MCs. Anyway, I' ll try to borrow one or two MC since I wouldn't go into the risk of spenting on an expensive MC.
Actually, I need your help, if possible, on another issue...Since I disassambled the 707 in order to rewire it, I cannot get it balanced with a cartridge on(currently trying with AKG P4MF). No matter how forth I move the counterweight, the arm falls back. I have moved the counterweight base also(this little cylinder on which it screws) but had no luck. Any ideas? I hope I haven't destroyed anything...

Actually I managed to put weight on the headshell...a 10cent coin with some blue tac did the job. However, the tonearm does not stand balanced but slides on the right if I leave it floating.
I believe though that the extra weight has nothing to do with it because it still happens when I remove it....

Hi,it sounds like the AKG is too light for the 707,that is why you can balance it with a coin. You will need an extra weight if you want to use the AKG.Does the arm slide on the right with or without the antiskating weight?
It slides without the antiskating weight, that's why it puzzles me!
Funny thing about the AKG...I didn't expect it to be so light.

Well, there was no reply but I had some progress 🙂
Dissasembling the whole deck for suspension tuning I found that two of the three springs were loosely fit on the suspension... Tightening them and then tuning the suspension made the arm work flawlessly again, no sliding, nothing! The thing was that due to the springs being loose, the suspension was 2-3 deg from level, in the opposite direction of the spindle, which reasonably made the arm slide to the arm rest.
Now that everything is tuned, I tried a recently borrowed AKG P8MF on the arm... It works perfectly, not to say it's a little gem! Stunning mids and mid-highs, lows are not the same good but not bad either. Reading here and there on the web I found that P8MF was considered high-end in its time...What's your opinion? Does anyone have any specs/manual of it?
