I find the song I'm Blue by Eiffel 65 depressing. First of all he has a blue girl. So what is he complaining about? Sounds nice and exotic to me. And then he mentions his blue corvette. Probably how he scored that blue girl of his. Anyway I think he needs to open his eyes and be thankful!

My favorite
The Cure - Siamese Twins
Edit: the whole album "Pornography" is scaring me...
While the whole Pornography album is depressing, the Cure song I find most depressing is "Disintigration," from the album by the same name. Other good "depressing" songs by The Cure on the Disintegration album are "Same Deep Water as You" and "Prayers for Rain."
Heck, I could run a list of good "Depressing" Cure songs from other albums of thier's, but I'll go with other songs by other bands that I find haunting or depressing:
Keep Running Up That Hill -- Placebo covering Kate Bush
Roads -- Portishead
The 2 of Us -- Suede
Wholeness -- Halou
Love Will Tear Us Apart -- Joy Division
Mad World -- Tears for Fears or the Gary Jules cover
I could probably go down the Darkwave road to try and find more depressing stuff, but most of those songs just try to be sad rather than making the sorrow a thing of beauty.
I know most of them called here. I dont think the blue Nile album is that depressing. What about: The Sound, i think the song is called Winter.
How about Marillions Script for a Jester's Tear, Weens Spinal Meningitis, Fishes Family Business.

Lisa Germano comes to mind
And, although I love it very much, Rachmaninoff.

PS ...my girlfriend judges 90% of my collection depressive...

It's good to see the Cure and Joy Division mentioned... Robert Smith is
my hero and Peter Hook - amazing.
I will submit the song Let Down by Radiohead.

For some reason cornball tunes like "Muskrat Love" by the Captain and Tenille make me want to find a shotgun and shoot the radio off the table. They are are more depressing than depressing songs.

"when you get out from the hospital, let me back into your arms"
Was a very dark song about a guy whos girl friend is ina coma cos of his driving I think. Does anybody know this song and who wrote it? Songs like this are good for perspective sometimes🙂
That might be Girlfriend In A Coma by The Smiths (or was it just solo Morrissey?).
I would say Down From Dover by Dolly Parton is quite the downer, in a good way.
Oh, and Kwantam, I guess one of us will have to change our avatar.

Hi Tcasimir,
I think your right, Ice Cream man was on the same compilation and it does sound like his voice and style.
Shortly after hearing Ice craeam man a whopping 20 odd years ago now, I went to see JR and modern lovers at the old wellington town hall.
Unfortunately the local skin heads turned up and pissed them off. Was only a few hundred people there and they left stage when the loosers started throwing beer cans at them.
seeya and thanks, will try find it🙂

As if other people's music wasn't depressing enough, I've been making my own for years. Some decidedly tongue in cheek, some not so much. I sing, and my brother does pretty much everything musical these days. Music and lyrics by several friends and band members over the years, particularly Dave Gatiss, Pete Giles, Ray Cave and my friend Judie Rowlf who sadly died of cancer a few years ago. I always think of her when I sing Whirlpool- probably her best lyric. Vocal melodies and many of the lyrics are mine. Check out www.myspace.com/ohnoitsthebrothersgrim and you'll get the general idea...
George Jones,
"He Stopped Loving Her Today"
"Things Have Gone To Pieces"
"The Window Up Above"
"A Picture Of Me (Without You)"
"The Grand Tour"

Guaranteed to bring you down!

Sounds pretty interesting from what samples i heard. Just ordered "Blood Inside"darkfenriz said:Ulver - "For the love of God"
Thanks!
"Blood Inside" isn´t as good as expected but not bad at all. Maybe i hear it thru a vew more times. It is very varying indeed but lends a lot of things. Reminds me on NIN or parts of the Gothic scene like the newer albums from "Elend".
The mastering isn´t the best also.
