Naahh!! Not to get too pedantic -did I suggested to put RCA cinchs/plugs ?-
To make sound coming out from a computer is an art ,
and we are thinking on closed compartments or 'black boxes' as we expect those to function well.
What you describe could be anything ,from computer PSU to bad shielding ,or also oxydization of some contacts .

u want to use it as a boombox.
Pull out + terminal of C113 and C223 and connect this to the RCA sockets u r going to install. Just find the tape power switch. Will normally be a leaf switch on the tape mechanism. Wire this to an externally accessible switch, if u want one or simply short it. Cut the wires to the motor so that it does not draw power and rotate.
select tape and start your boombox.
