Grollins (Grey) has been sinbinned for 2 days for disregarding the forum rules on safety (rule #4) and his persistent cavalier position on the issue of safety after multiple warnings.
Safety is not a debatable issue on this forum.

I'm trying to figure out what post of Grey's actually disregarded forum rules on safety. He basically said, "don't panic."
There's no case here, RoddY. This moderation MID$("Yamashita",5,4) has gotten out of hand.
Reverse Sinbin: I'm outta here.

The bulk of the posts, including the many attempts to get Grey to stop trivalizing the possible dangers of working with electricity, were moved to Texas here:

I hope you read it a see that this was not a knee-jerk reaction. I did not want it to come to this. I did not like doing it, but I cannot let Grey's vanity override the safety of the members. Grey's words are well respected on this forum and he should setting an example for the less experienced members. Instead he choose to tell how he has been shocked many times and that it's no big deal. He did this repeatedly and then again on another thread.
If you feel that you need to leave us, that is your decision to make, but you have to know that Grey was wrong in this situation.
Rod,
Two things:
First, please see my other post entitled "working with electronics."
Second, I would hope you are smart enough to pick up on exactly what was going on. The guy comes back and is here for two days and mysteriously Phred is again badgering him... This time with a BS holyer than thou attitude.
I PERSONALLY REQUEST THAT HIS WHOLE SUBNET BE LOCKED OUT!
I am sick and tired of his professional jealousy and constant badgering... He wastes lots of my as well as others' time....
I would have locked out that whole subnet as soon as I picked up on the fact that he was posting under multiple aliases...

Steve,
This is not a Fred vs Grey issue.

I'm sorry you're frustrated, I am too, but be frustrated for the right reasons.

Two points......
I read the thread on "working on electronics". So what?
And your proof of "posting under multiple aliases" applies to whom.
Ditto for who has a "holier than thou attitude" and "professional jealousy". Likewise for wasting our time.

Fellow members,
The whole issue is centered around one statement,
"Solid state voltages aren't high enough to worry about."
That one statement is irresponsible, and sends the wrong message especially someone new in this hobby.
No one is trying to hassle Grey, but there a lot of newbies on this forum that have no idea how dangerous electricity can be.
Grey sould have said that he made a mistake and pointed out that proper precautions should be observed when working on electrical equipment, and not try to say that it was no big deal.
So stop trying to make this a personality issue. I have worked at servel places in the industry that would have fired me for having Grey"s attitude about safety. If one of you have seen someone nearly die of an electrical shock you will know what I mean, it's not funny.
Please read the posted links and research the dangers of electric shock and precautions you should take when working on electrical equipment.
Regards,
Jam

Does it always take this long?
Why does it take so long for a new thread to show up in this forum? I posted a new thread a few hours ago and it still isn't listed in the forum. This is crazy.

Hi,
No, only a couple of seconds.
If it hasn't shown up by now it probably never will....
You must have done something wrong.😉
Cheers,😉

Re: Does it always take this long?
You have just registerd today and have made only 2 posts so far. Untill you hit 6 posts number (or so) you will be going through moderation process, where I, or one of my colleagues will decide if your post are suitable for the forum to be seen.
That's a standard procedure and every new member goes through that.

Hi,
Good to know. I had no clue about that though.
Is this just insider (moderator knowledge) or can this be read about somewhere?
TA,😉

It hasn't been a secret, but i don't know if it was ever explicitly expressed. This procedure has been in place for some time now -- planned for a long time before that -- and implemented at a point where we were being spammed quite a bit. There is even a forum to help new users as part of this and it is mentioned in the email you get after registering. The primary purpose is to make sure no one signs up to spam the list. Secondary purpose is to weed out inappropriate rookie posts (which is almost a never happens thing). We also use the same mechanism to muzzle some members that are just out of control (a punishment worse than sinbin in some ways).

Hi,
In that case all is fine...
I was just concerned about the newbies and the forum's welbeing...
Thanks Dave and Peter,😉

It's just that this process is a little different. I haven't been to another forum that does this.

And we'd like to keep it that way 🙂

As far as I can remember (it's been a few months since I joined) You get a message each time you post which says you are still under moderation and your post won't appear until a moderator checks it.
Tony.

Question for moderator.
Why is it that I don't get any email message notification if there is a new post from a thread that I have posted? I probably disabled the setting accidently. Where do I go to readjust the setting?

Oh ... under User CP ... Edit Option ... I did have it clicked "yes" for the "Email Notification". What other setting did I not do?
