Hi Al and all,
Quo vadis forum?
My goodness, since when do moderators have to justify themselves to this point?
Oh, while we're at it, Italian culture and a Texan sense of humour don't seem to blend in well either...
What about poor Jocko? Is there a verdict yet?
Am I the only one seeing the humour in his post or should I start a quick course on basic italian?
Anyway, on a more constructive basis...
What about guiding new members through the forum rules when registering, making them either accept or decline them prior to acceptance to the forum so we can then say in case of acceptance: " Well, you agreed to the rules, so we expect you to live by them, if you don't you must accept the consequences (to the best of our judgement?)".
In case of a decline of the forum rules, they'd simply wouldn't get registered.
Not that I suggest we'd make the forum a private club, just to make sure the rules were accepted, not necessarilly read as such, no way to control that IMO.
The idea is very analoguous to what one agrees on prior to installing a new software package on a computer.
It's just an idea, if worthwhile it would require some HTML coding exercise but I feel it's worth considering....then again again it may turn out to be another exercise in mental masturbation on my part.
Cheers,😉

All the time mate, all the time😉😀

He was let out about half an hour ago, I sent him a mail, but despite Blueyonder saying the've fixed all the problems, it still seems a little flakey at the moment.
Hi,
Good to see you kept your sense of humour, All.
Show us a smile and you'll get a smile in return.🙂
I'm sure he'll be happy to to receive the good news...even when it comes with a couple of days delay...
Let me applaud you on what I feel is a wise decission, Al. It takes some character to revise ones' POV...I admire that.
Totally OT:
Strangely, I'm having the oddest of odd mailproblems myself lately, all related to the forum...could it be that the Sitepont mailserver is having some hickups or should I look elsewhere?
Best regards,😉

It Is Not All That Difficult Joel.
You are welcome to search my posts for angry commnts all you like because you won't find them.
It is not difficult to communicate in a polite and effective way if you put your mind to it - all this bandwidth on this thread is about exactly that and how about you try to do so without adding invective and bitchy comments ?.
Eric.
Polite and positive discourse is all that is required - emotive terms are not required nor welcome in the manner that you have used.Joel said:Tim, Eric,
Perhaps you want to participate in a forum where you are afraid of choosing the wrong word or phrase, but I would prefer not to.
The only problems I've ever had in this forum revolve around the use of moderation. There is not a single member I want banned, or removed, or even censored. Not even Frank. 😉
And Eric, let's not get into the search-each-other's-posts-for-angry-comments game, shall we? You have posted as many insults and invective as the best of 'em.
Joel

Hi,
Strange as it may seem to you, you created exactly that situation for the rest of us.
How's that for "abstract" thinking?
Has it ever occured to you that you may end up being the only loosing party here?
Cheers, 😉

Hi,
Luis Borges?
As Grataku would put it " You crack me up".
Magnificent, Rodd...absolutely brilliant, I tell you.
Jam? Where is you now?
Hats off guys,😉

How do you figure that Frank? I didn't create the moderation policy, and I certainly didn't set the current tone around here. In fact, I think you can pat yourself on the back for that.
I'm also not participating in the game several members here like to play which is to go back over a person's whole history of posts and analyze which word was inappropriate (by their standards), and which joke went too far (by their standards). But it's too bad that you - and the moderators here - don't pay as much attention to your own posts. There are some interesting snide comments to a new member from just yesterday.
Joel, it seems like you are the only one currently, complaining about moderation. Anybody else?😉
Mods and anyone else concerned, an interesting article on the sort of group dynamics one sees in a variety of Internet fora:

Joel, stop weeping and start to talk audio in a nice manner, be humble and try to understand the other side. Skip the politics and religion talk.

Hi Per,
Clearly you don't understand the issues in this case, and have not read many (any?) of my posts, since this is not about politics or religion. I have only gotten involved in a political discussion ONCE here... and I regretted it immediately.
Also, the topic of this entire thread is "MODERATION". Therefore, I have to wonder why everyone seems mad at me for bringing up my issues with moderation here!

If you don't want to discuss moderation, why are you reading this thread??!?! 😕 😕 😕 😕
There is a strange sort of bullying in effect here.
If everyone is just nice to each other no moderation is necessary.
Joel, I have read many of your posts and "humbleness" isn't your trademark exactly.
Politics and religion topics were in general.
Moderation is good. That's my point of view. The moderator are doing a great but ungrateful job.

Utopia doesn't exist.
Joel, I have read many of your posts and humbleness isn't your trademark exactly.[/
Is that a requirement for membership? Is that in the forum rules?
Must've missed it. 🙄
Moderation is good.
I never said it was bad, or unnecessary. I said I did not want selective moderation to take place here. In case that's a tough concept for you, or you didn't take the time to read this thread, that's when the rules are applied differently to different members.
I have seen this occur way too often in the past 6 months, and I would like to bring the topic into general discussion, and hopefully even make some changes to the way moderators are chosen, exert power, and are monitored themselves.
Joel said:Utopia doesn't exist.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't always try to push towards it thou.
Is that a requirement for membership? Is that in the forum rules?
No, but it sure helps if you want to get along harmoniously with the rest of the world.
even make some changes
changes happen all the time as the mods try to maximize the board's* signal-to-noise.
* and this in itself is a moving target.

Hi,
Are you at it again?
See posts # 31 and my reply in # 32.
What's the matter with you? You obviously can't read a post let alone interpret it properly...you say you won't do something and yet do it nonethelesss all in one sentence...Shall I go on?
And surely it's all the fault of you being under moderation, right?
In the end nobody's going to have a clue on how to help you, Joel.
So, please tell us what's bugging you?
Cheers,😉

You, Frank. Seems to me you started it.
Seems to me this phrase applies to this situation:
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Shame on you, Frank, for egging him on (I don't even remember what it was anymore). Shame on you, Joel, for allowing him to get your goat.
