Oh, and he's still at it as I write BTW...are you guys blind or what?
What in the world are you talking about Frank?
I've just spent a week in the SinBin after trying to beat off verbal assualts from you and 316a, and if the mods would care to go over the last week's posts while I was gone they would see you trying to bait me several times. So, what exactly have I "pulled off"?
You, a moderator???

Joel
Guys, keep this polite please. I'm not going to censor this discussion, but I won't allow it descend into abuse and invective.
Hi,
Trying hard, Al.
These are 14, yes fourteen, posts you made in a row yesterday 6th of July.
I won't comment on them, they speak for themselves.
CONTENT?
Well, I truely hope someone will do that job...if they find the courage.
I look forward to the evidence too but I won't hold my breath.
It must be a formidable trick to bait someone you absolutely positevely know can't reply.
Joel,
Can you for once be honest and not twist the truth, please?
Thank you,😉

Is there a limit to the number of posts one can make in a day? I wasn't aware that replying to 14 threads made me "pulling one over" on anyone.
Get a grip.
Get a grip.
Hi,
Actually not a bad idea at all and in a way I've noticed it in action already but probably more on a subconscience level.
The actual moderator(s) in charge often have to act in a hurry to prevent things from getting too much out of control.
It is only to be expected then that with hindsight some actions seem a little over the top or that the situation was misjudged.
I don't think that it can be prevented unless we create a "temporary sinbin" while the panel is out analysing the situation until a final verdict is out.
If that verdict is made on a basis of information exchange between moderators and/or elder members than that would probably help to make for a more objective judgement.
Whether it is a practical solution is hard to tell...until it is tried out for while and evaluated.
Anyway one looks at it, being sinbinned is an unpleasant experience and it should be, being sinbinned for the wrong reasons even more so.
On a final note, I'd welcome more moderator intervening before deciding to sinbin, kind of giving some warning signs if you like.
Just my twopence,😉
That way some of the inconsistencies and injustices that have occurred in the past will not re-occur, and the rudeness from more recently joined members that has been allowed to continue will be nipped in the bud a whole lot sooner.

And also for your information Frank, all "14" of my posts showed up at the nearly the same time because all my posts are being monitored now by our dear moderators. Therefore Dave had to read them all before letting them be posted. Therefore it appeared as if I jotted off 14 random posts in the course of a few minutes, which was certainly not the case.
And why, may you ask are my posts being moderated? Why, because I replied to personal attacks. Take this as a warning that in this forum only the intial instigator will remain unpunished.

Problems And Solutions....
A solution is a 24hr or less placement in Purgatory while the Bishop and the Bishop's Council meet and discuss.
A condition of membership of this forum is that the following 5 rules be adhered to, and this is what distinguishes this forum from some others.
Moderators Statement
A problem that has surfaced time and again is that newcomers to this forum arrive with lack of knowlege of DIYaudio etiquette and standing of other members, and carry with them the culture of other forums or social groups that may not fit with the established social order established here over time.
These upstarts end up causing trouble and disharmony, and when an elder member wittily responds to such brashness, it is all too often these messengers who get shot, and the troublemaker allowed to continue unhindered - this kind of injustice has occurred repeatedly.
I feel that the 'Elder' ranking system ought to be re-implemented for this gives direct information about the current status of all members, and functions as a guide to who is communicating and helps to keep discussion tones more civil.
I have further ideas, but this is food for thought for now.
Eric.
This has happened, and is a signal that the present system is not working faultlessly. It is only to be expected then that with hindsight some actions seem a little over the top or that the situation was misjudged.

FORUM RULES
1) No personal attacks or bullying. If you disagree with what someone is saying, then present a mature and intelligent case to prove otherwise. Malicious intent will not be tolerated. What you do over private email is one thing, what you do on our forum is another.
2) No offensive language. Sure, most of us use four letter words in normal conversation without too much thinking, but this forum is about thinking. Words are the clothes in which thought is dressed. And luckily, these threads are cheap (pun intended) so please choose language that reflects the quality of your ideas.
3) No threadjacking. Threadjacking is the practise of stealing another's thread by posting off-topic replies such that the original topic becomes diluted or lost. Off-topic posts, and even more importantly replies to off-topic posts, are welcome, but should also address the original thread topic.
Some of the greatest discussions have come as a result of off-topic replies. If something interesting does arise that warrants further discussion then continue your discussion privately over email, or even better start a new thread and link to it. This rule will of course be used with discretion.
4) No posting of safety endangering information without an accompanying safety-warning message that adequately explains the risks
5) Usage of multiple registrations for the same person and/or same internet access account is not permitted without prior approval of the site, and may result in a permanent ban of the individual and/or account holder.
Violation of forum rules will result in users having their accounts suspended and/or terminated, at the discretion of the moderators.
These 5 rules will be enforced in good faith to keep the discussion quality level and the level of peer respect, high.
A problem that has surfaced time and again is that newcomers to this forum arrive with lack of knowlege of DIYaudio etiquette and standing of other members, and carry with them the culture of other forums or social groups that may not fit with the established social order established here over time.

You Just Can't Help Yourself, Can You Joel...
I have not been sinbinned for abuse of other members, thankyou Joel.
Moreover I get on perfectly well with the likes of Frank, Jocko, Fred and all others.
The only trouble has been with Steve Eddy, and as we know this is not at all unique.
I was in fact sinbinned for posting the content of a very rude email sent by him to me - hardly justice.
Search : Joel and Frank reveals many snarpy comments from you Joel.
This thread is about improving this forum, and not about your ego.

I also don't think that somebody who is suggesting the creation of an "elder ranking system" should be preaching to me about ego.
The 'Elder' system that precedes you is not about ego at all - it provides a means of better identifying the level of contribution of members.

It's about ego; who decides on the level of contribution and what were the criteria?
Diyaudio has over 6000 members (not all are active) but but when a certain type of questions comes around only few people participates. The fingers on one hand is enough if you want to count them and it's the same persons all the time.
What is the real problem? 😕

Mikek's Utter Filth.
Being a member of this usually happy forum is a privilege and not a right, and those who lower themselves to emailing offensive and provocative comments behind the scenes are not worthy members and should be excluded.
Eric.
I have read the disgusting email sent by Mikek to Jocko, and in the interests of the forum I say that the rules should be altered. What you do over private email is one thing, what you do on our forum is another.

Re: Mikek's Utter Filth.
Good point MrFeedback,
invading someone offline space with insults by means of private email coming from DIYAUDIO.COM should also be ground for punishment. Although this is an unwritten rule that is respected in general these situations can be really be extremely annoying.
I have received ONLY two emails like that in the past (incredible isn't it?) and I have taken care of the crap on my own.
However, this grey area of the law should be addressed.

This whole thing reminds me of a discussion on another board about a modern day utopia. It would seem as though it doesn't exist and all attempts to create one are doomed to failure. I was the first to reply to Mikek's thread with a simple observation on his preocupation with political agendas. The idea that what I said to mike as being offensive or insulting enough to qualify for sinbinning is too much. I have tried to be helpful and to contribute to this community in the past but if I now have to decide wether my reply will land me in the sinbin or guess what mood a moderator is in then it's not really worth it. A long time ago this board was a pretty cool place. If you did something really bad, Jason threw you off, anything else and you got jumped on by the elders. It's not as complicated as some of you think.🙁
You're telling me? I've been told by the moderators straight up that any post they deem "incindiary" (sic) will not make it through to the board.
I'm currently "under moderation", and this post probably won't even see the light of day. I've had over a dozen snuffed out between Dave and Pinkmouse. And for what? They contain no vulgarity, no lies, no links, no personal attacks - only facts, and my opinions. Is there a problem here? You bet there is.

Dunno if I should try jumping in such a large thread that I know nothing about but here I go anyway...
Forums, it seems to me, are like a country. There's politics. The simplest form of forum would be a dictatorship, where one person, the admin, has total control over his board. This works for small boards with a generous admin, but to keep the posts moderated for larger groups, more admins, or people with limited admin power, aka moderators, are instated. This equates to a republic. The last one, democracy, would be where every single person has his/her right to vote on wether, and how, a post should be moderated. Now that sounds hard to do but a blog I saw (it's the big science one but I'm too tired to remember its name 🙁 ) has post rating, where each post starts with a score of say 1, and the moderators are allowed to judge the score of the posts: to bouy up underrated posts, or supress negative ones. Now, who moderates? The posters have their own score, if they type posts which get rated positively, their score goes up, whereas negatives reduce their score. Based on this, and some other stuff, the programming chooses people to moderate. This is a temporary thing where: 1. it lasts 3 days, if you don't use your mod points, tough beans; 2. you get 5 points to increment or reduce a post's score; 3. using these points reduces your own rating, to reduce abuse.
Now, this last government seems extremely fair to me, as it was put when I read about it; but I suppose it'd be too late to implement much of it here. Sigh for communism..
Tim
P.S. Calm down, Joel. It's just words on a computer screen.

More Haste, Less Speed.
Do a search of your posts and you will find MANY confrontationally worded replies from you that are just not welcome in polite company.
If you refrain from adding bits like 'Ahh, the mighty 316a has something to add regarding class B circuits? Or are you just trolling as usual?" or "To which the illustrious Frank D responds..." etc you will find this forum a friendlier place.
These are your words too Joel "This kind of nonsense is exactly why I'm not participating in this forum anymore.".
If you compare your posts that currently get through moderation with those that don't, you will likely understand the required standard.
We all wish that you conform, and that you understand the alternative.
Eric.
Joel, perhaps you should take this as a hint that what you regard as acceptable, and more to the point how you communicate is not always acceptable to others. They contain no vulgarity, no lies, no links, no personal attacks - only facts, and my opinions. Is there a problem here? You bet there is.

Tim, Eric,
Perhaps you want to participate in a forum where you are afraid of choosing the wrong word or phrase, but I would prefer not to.
The only problems I've ever had in this forum revolve around the use of moderation. There is not a single member I want banned, or removed, or even censored. Not even Frank. 😉
And Eric, let's not get into the search-each-other's-posts-for-angry-comments game, shall we? You have posted as many insults and invective as the best of 'em.
