i've tested some 24v relays with just 12v supply and they worked, not sure if its meant to or not (would 24v mean Max voltage it will take? )
The rated voltage is where the relay meets specs but it has a range where it's expected to operate. For the relay in the attached diagram, it's expected to engage at 70% of rated and to release at 10% of the rated voltage. The diagrams show that these numbers can be variable.
The maximum voltage depends on the coil temperature. Many manufacturers give it as about 150% of rated but this varies with the ambient temperature. A hotter ambient temperature will allow less applied voltage because the coil is being heated externally.
The attached PDF file does a pretty good job of explaining in greater detail.

Probably the pick up voltage would be the main concern between a 12 and 24 volt relay. The pick up voltage, or must operate voltage for a 24 volt relay is 16.8vdc.
I ordered the relays off of eBay. The original was a Jy1aJEN-DC12V. The ones I got are JY1J-DC12V. I had to buy a lot of 10 pieces. Another seller had them where you could buy 1 but had a minimum order of $15 plus tax and shipping. It was cheaper to pay $29.99 plus tax and free shipping for the 10 pieces.
Same exact relay just with the NC pin. I just cut it off and worked like a charm.
I doubt the owner would even notice to small difference in the numbers on the relays.

If you haven't already done so, you should confirm that the shield and frame of the RCA jacks are tight. If not, you should solder them.
The center conductor contacts also get loose. To tighten them, on the Audio Troubleshooting page (ATS in the quick links), do a ctrl-f search for:

Thanks. I was more worried about the remote connection. It seems to be fine but was wondering if it would be wise to re-enforce it for good measure with out it "looking too bad".
