Minolta Dimage F100, is it good?

I'm thinking of buying Minolta Dimage F100 for simplier documentation at work. Does anybody have personal (practical) experince of this particular camera?

For as far as I know the minolta is a nica camera.

I've got a Canon Digital Ixus which came with a 8mb compactflash card.

First thing I bought was a 96mb card, a CF reader for my PC and one for the laptop. Downloading images drains the batteries of the Canon really quick

The F100 is a 4 megapixel camera so a huge memory is nice to have. One picture takes 12 MB(!) if you want the highest quality.

I have now bought the Minolta Dimage F100. Works very nicely on XP and Mac (not tested yet) I hope.

It's possible to take a picture of a chip and see the bond wires and the pattern of the chip. Thank you for the review link, it has been very helpful. The F100 was also top tested in the swedish magazine "Foto".

The bad thing so far is the current consumption (expected!) and the optical view, not so good. The sharpness is bad but small cameras (both analog and digital) have often this type of performance of the viewer.

Anyone who want to see a sample picture (not 12MB pictures of course )?

I'd be interested in seeing a close-up photo. Taking detail shots of electronics is of interest, but I've found that it is harder to find a good camera that can focus up close.

42 mm wide object will fill up the CCD sensor in macro position but with good sharpness of the lens and 4 Mpx you can clearly se hair and bond wires. I will post a picture later.

The pictures are taken with a handhold camera and flash. I didn't come as close as possible. The camera can do better with a tripod and better lights. Not bad though for a snapshot.

Here is a detail of my daugthers eye. The quality is second from "worse" in fact. You canchoose from 4 different qualities, 500k JPEG, 1 MB JPEG, 2 MB, JPEG and 12 MB TIFF.

My Minolta is really usefull. Check out my old class A headphone amp with Supertex MOSFET's. Note also that my boss has bought a cool(!) lamp with umbrella (1250 Watts). Good lightning is half the picture.
