I got my copy a few weeks ago, and I have to say, it's a keeper. It's a really fine book, Merlin. Thanks for putting it together.

Bought the preamp book from lulu and lusts for the power supply book... reissue please...
Many of us have asked for the possibility to have that book....
If Merlin is reading....please....
And the book is reviewed by John Broskie on Tube CAD Journal just in case anyone needed an additional poke to order!
I must thank you for this fine book Merlin. I have read it through twice now and I would comment that it is exceptionally laid-out and very well indexed.
But I most enjoy your clear and practical writing style. Great job!

Phono preamp from this book now built and working. Lovely sound from it through my Currawong Amp and Magnepan speakers. PC97s were a challenge to find in Oz - had to mail order them from Britain - obviously never used in Australian manufactured products of the 50s and 60s. The preamp is exceptionally quiet with no signal, and to my old ears the vinyls sound great through this system.
Thanks Merlin.
Thanks Merlin.
Wow, I never thought anyone would actually build it -especially not outside the UK! Did you use the same power supply / transformer arrangement?Phono preamp from this book now built and working.
Transformer from an old radiogram chassis 280-0-280v and 6.3v secondaries. I used your power supply setup modified by using two phase connection for the HT using two UF4007 diodes, 47uF cap and then your Maida regulator, and then a voltage doubler arrangement of two 5408 diodes and two 4700uF caps followed by your regulator for the 10.5v series/parallel heater supply.
Looking forward to reading your forthcoming book review.🙂My copy of the book arrived this morning.

This is a very brief review:
I enjoyed reading the book. It contains lots of useful information, and some genuine engineering (you know, numbers and explanations). Somewhat unusually for me, I only found a couple of minor quibbles (and they are so minor I've forgotten what they are - if I remember I will PM the author).
Highly recommended!

Ordered a copy as well. The 30% off was the tipping point. Really enjoyed your book on guitar tube preamps.
Merlin, allow me to add my voice to the requests for the power supply book. We need it. In the meantime, I just ordered the pre-amp book and am looking forward to it.
There's some overlap, but there's a lot that is distinct in each. I have both, and think that anyone seriously wanting to dive into tube preamp design should as well.
