I currently am running a pair of k402MEHs as a 3 way with a pair of f20 subs. I just picked up a Yamaha sp2060 and it offers a 2 way + sub configuration and a 3 way configuration. I like having the full range for my stereo setup (my MEHs will dom20hz to 20k, but I am pushing the M3H 15"Celestion woofers too hard..hence using as a 3 way now).
What is the difference, and what would the advantages and disadvantages be. I am using a Denafrips Athena 2 channel preamp for my stereo setup and feed my Marantz av8805a into one input on the Athena for movies.

In most cases the 2+sub will sum the low channel to mono, which should work fine. The 3-way keeps the sub stereo too.
If you have a special soundtrack, that delivers a bass impulse only to one side, you will drive the single stereo sub to it's limit, while as a pair they will share it. Distributing the energy over both subs into the room should work better, too.
If you have a room correction for more than one sub, it may be an advantage to equalize each sub individualy. Such room correction is usually done with an AVR. It will direct the sub signal correctly, into a mono LF channel, but equalize accordeing to the sub position in the room. In this case stereo 3-way is the way to go.

Setup is now a 3 way, with dual k402MEHs per channel and a Lilmikes f20 per channel. Only the top horn has a comp driver and a pair of 15" woofers..the bottom horn has a matching pair of woofers (no compression driver). 4 15ftr3070c woofers per channel and a Celestion axi2050 per channel. Signal is split on the output of the Xilica for the mid 15" Celestions with each pair having its own Fosi v3 monoblock amp.
I have used Magic Beans software and it made some nice differences in the sound. I noticed more clarity overall and dead silence inbetween notes. In most cases the 2+sub will sum the low channel to mono, which should work fine. The 3-way keeps the sub stereo too.

I would think the difference between 2 way + sub vs 3 way is a high pass on the middle woofer. The end result is what matters. IF the middle woofer plus sub create enough efficiency to play loud without distorting mid, then its a go.... If the combined efficiency isn't enough then high pass the mid and let the subwoofer do all the "heavy lifting" as they say.
Indeed, I thought they were unobtanium unless you already own the Jubilees - ?Noce! Have you made the whole k402meh yourself or used standard k402 and made holes?
I picked up 2 new, and 2 used.between 2017 and 2018.Indeed, I thought they were unobtanium unless you already own the Jubilees - ?
When I bought mine new there were $1200 each shipped with a comp driver and stand. I have heard they are now $2800 each plus shipping.
We measured for a distance of 6" from the throat and placed a 2" holes away the mark and just inside the ditch, then made a 2nd 2" hole to the distance door a 10:1 compression then connected the 2 holes. Repeated until we had 4 per horn.A little off-topic but can you share the method you used to cut the holes in your K402s?
Yes. I also when making the woofer pads had a 45 degree chamfer on the woofer side. If I had thought of it I would have made it a multi angle with a 45, and a 30 degree angle to smooth the transition even more.

I just had a AI do a comparison of how my original MEHs would have sounded with the F20 horn subs (ALL comparisonswere with the same drivers I am currently using). I also had it compare with a conventional speaker design, horn with out cabinet, stacked identical horns (with only one comp driver) with and without cabinets, with one with a cabinet, and one without configured as one channel, I was surprised on how much more spl there was with a horn vs conventional speaker as well as some other advantages and disadvantages of each type I had AI compare.
when we move I am going to have cabinets made to protect them during shipping. When we get to our destination.. I will also try with both in cabinets and one in cabinet.
