Markaudio. Updates on driver lines?

Good afternoon everybody. So I’m hoping I understand the driver lines in mark audios website. This is from Top of the line to lowest of the line of drivers as goes?
1.MAOP Series Drivers.
2.Alpair Series Drivers.
3.Pluvia Series Drivers.
4.CH Series Drivers. Special drivers CHP -90 For Japan only.

So now that I hope I got this right? So my question is? So Is the Alpair 5.3 Drivers ever going to be updated? I see nothing new on the web site but, the Alapir MS drivers a few years back? Last up date was a long time ago if am remembering correctly? I don’t see a replacement for this driver but, in the MAOP line the MAOP 5’s which is $277.00 apair. The Alpair 5.3’s are $47.70each. So is the MAOP drivers that good to pay $138.50 each and $90.80 more per. Drive vs the Alapir 5.3s? Thanks Jeff

The line up has been thrown into disarray.

MAOPs are definitly top tier, but once you get to the others the lines blur.

Yes, i would say MAOP 5 is likely well worth the extra tariff and likely the best (as hard as it is to define best) midTweeter in the MA line. And for a kick-*** desktop speaker.

My one MAOP experience is with MAOP 7. It was a neck & neck battle between it and A7.3eN. The former probably a bit more neutral.

If i was still doing EnABL a set of A5.2/3eN qould be $200 USD/pr so MAOP is cheap (relatively).

Sorry Dave I should have said more natural sounding and more micro details and better imaging in the MAOP drivers. Yes am going to be using the MAOP 5 drivers as a mid/tweeter. My still 2 favorites are the Fostex Ff85wk and the Mark Audio CHN 50’s drivers. The CHN drivers are very very hard to beat in terms of price and sound. Not the last in bass or micro details but, does a great job of just playing music. I would have never thought a metal or aluminum driver would sound so good with out the past ringing, or bright sounding they were known for. Thanks for your input dave.

I'm also looking at Mark Audio drivers. These would be my 3rd pair, after the CHN-50 and Alpair 5. The CHN-50s are in 4L desktop boxes, while the Alpairs are in wave-guided mid-tweets in the still-unfinished main hi-fi. What's missing is a relaxed bluetooth for the kitchen.

My thinking is that 28 cm² may be a little too small for the application, and 50cm² or 85cm² may give a bit more oompth without breaking the real-estate budget (2x 5L or so).

Of the CHN / CHP / CHR-70 group, the CHN looks to have the lightest cone and corresponding magnet, so I assume it may have a smaller voice coil and may be the 'sweetest' with light loads.

Of the bigger CHP-90 / CHR-90, the CHR variant looks to have a lighter cone, so that's my #1 pick for now.

I wonder if there's a meaningful difference in the sound characteristics of metal vs paper though? I've always gravitated towards metal because of the theoretical appeal of pistonic motion, but that obviously doesn't apply here.

Dang.. 28L. OK, I can almost see how 5L might cause those ultra-thin membranes to flex with the outer edges and the centre moving in opposite directions.

So... what about an isobaric sub buried inside to 'fake' the missing 23L? 😎 🥷

I measured the cone on the CHP-90.
It is 9.3 cm in diameter.
But you should measure the diameter to half the suspension.
The CHP-90 then measures 10.3 cm.

Alpair 10Maop measures 9.8 cm and to half the suspension10.8 cm.

I just got a set of the Mark Audio maop 5s. I waited a long time. Still my favorite small driver (bang for the buck) still is the Mark Audio CHN 50’s. It so darn natural and so less peaky or bright sounding. I have had 95% of thier drivers but, sold off due to time and wood shop resources. Am only doing a few boxes here and there and have slowed down quite a bit in the last 10 months. Getting to the point of just sitting down and listening to my music or movies now. Still will build but, being careful of the spending these days. We’ll I hope the CHN drivers work out for you? They are a nice driver to have and use. Be safe. Jeff

Those are the newest drivers from Mark Audio at Madisound That I know of. I hope you like them. Am guessing Mark Audio is changing the Paper cones to the white now. The paper cones I have had from Mark Audio have been in order.
Alpair 6p. Alpair 7p. CHP-70. CHN-70.
Pluvia 7 PHD. Alpair 12p. I also had the CSS EL70 drivers. Gave them to a diyer. The newest Drivers the Maop 5’s. First pair of this series’s. There’s only a few drivers I have not had from Mark Audio. I have also had a lot of the other versions as well. I hope you enjoy them. They are at a level way above any other fullrange driver company I have bought from but, The fostex FF85wk are still one of my faves well.
