A10p + FHXL is a "no brainer" if you have the space.I used the 10P in a DNA rear loaded cabinet. Although I enjoyed most of the music it produced, I found the bass to be more of a one note affair. I blame this on the cabinet itself and not so much the driver.

Thanks for the update on the Alpiar 10p sound. So the Dimple on the dust cap over the years has gone from the Alpair line to the Puliva line but, the paper drivers and now the CHN-metal drivers only (not on the paper drivers). I wonder if Mark Audio is phasing this feature out after the Pluvia series and CHN series has updated versions come out in the future? Just curious.
Hi Jeff. Have you listened to the Alpair 10p vs the 12p? Just wondering how they sound?A10p + FHXL is a "no brainer" if you have the space.

Where is that offered? I would like to see. The Onkens really look great to me. Yes, I realize that it isn't all about looks, yet I prefer something that won't be taller than maybe 3 1/2 ft, and not be intrusive in my 19 X 14 X 8.3

The place you bought the Mark Audio drivers Alpair 12PW. Here’s a picture. You can also get the cabinet plans from Dave of Planet 10. He’s the brains and owner of this design.

A12p in Super Pensil cabs have been my main speakers for over 10 years now. Holy cow, where did all the years go? Obviously, I'm still enjoying them, so whatever replaces them is going to be something pretty amazing.Hi Jeff. Have you listened to the Alpair 10p vs the 12p? Just wondering how they sound?
If I said the A10p is the better sounding driver of the two, I doubt too many will disagree. A little smoother thru the midband, a little more extended in the treble, and a better soundstage vs the 12p.
Both drivers could be characterized as having a vintage sound compared to other MA drivers and other commercial speakers.

Thanks Jeff. That’s awesome news. I know an audiophile friend of mine that has the Alpair 12s in a pencil box as well. He says they are the best drivers he has had. I need to contact him and get some listening time in on his speakers. 😁A12p in Super Pensil cabs have been my main speakers for over 10 years now. Holy cow, where did all the years go? Just 25 or so hours of beak in to go with the 12PW. What I am hearing still leads me to believe that the Onkin cabinets will be in the making when spring finally agrees. Frustrating time of year for me until it is warm enough in the shop for glue to cure.
Funny how drivers can go through a second rough stage during break in. Only a few hours ago, when playing they were more polite in the midrange, and right now, they have a forwardness to them that I assure you will leave in only a few more hours of play. Still keeping the level relatively low, but higher than before. FWIW, very lightly touching the edge of the surround is the only way that I know if the cone is moving at all. Pretty amazing that with what I am hearing there is absolutely even with very close visual inspection, imperceptible movement. I realize that the human eye would not really be able to tell in an accurate way, but I am just saying that I feel that I am well within the limits for break in. Also, just today, I have added a 12db/octave filter at 100 hz to start to get in tune with a sub at quieter levels.
Thank you for the observation. Point well taken. I do get anxious in these sorts of things, but the filter will be removed, at least until later. It is really something to me what this driver is capable of in terms of bass response. In the proper cabinet, it may very well be the best that I have made, and yes, I have made numerous expensive, complicated, and serious speakers over the decades. Only a few have had this much promise.
