I have the same problem with my amplifier, but having found the R802 resistor, i'm not sure it is 47ohms. Could someone have a look at the attached picture and tell me if I am being stupid? I think I see yellow violet black red then maybe gold or grey? I have tested it and it is broken.

Thanks for the quick reply Netlist, but I have tested the 802 and 807 resistors, and pretty much every other one as well. I know that the 802 resistor has gone on my amp, but I don't think the colours on the 802 resistor look like 47 ohms. I'm new to this though so happy to be corrected if the fairly faded colour bands in my picture are those of a 47 ohm resistor.

Its definetely 47 ohms even after looking at your burnt out resistor. It would be read from yellow violet then black. A lot of people including myself have replaced this with ease.
You can actually just cut off the burnt out resistor with a sharp pair of cutters making sure there is enough of the legs left sticking out to solder a new one on top. This saves you from having to gain access to the PCB from the bottom. I did this to mine over a year ago and its still running perfectly

Ok thanks, its just that it is a five band resistor with red as the fourth band, which would make it a 47kilo-ohm resistor! Do you know what current handling capacity it needs?

I think a lot of people may have gone for higher wattage 1W/2W or even splashed out on exotic ones. I would stick to a low wattage say 1/2 w which would only set you back 8p in Maplin.
My reasoning is very simple the resistor will open/blow if something goes wrong as before. This will protect the rest of your costly and possibly hard to find components. This might not be the case if you use a higher wattage resistor as you may end up with a costly problem upstream.
Keep it simple, mine is still running fine and I have used it everyday for months.

My PM-66e sat dormant for a year with no output, finally decided to get it looked at audio shop, was quoted £85-£100 to fix. Told them where to go and started seraching internet. Found a 47R resistor ans swapped it turned it on and my ability to make much noise has returned.
Thanks to everyone who has made this possible.

I have had the same problem - powers up, but no output... which is incredibly frustrating as I only bought the Marantz PM66se KI a few weeks ago. Anyway, I'm presuming it is the same problem, so I'm going to try to replace the resistor. Can someone just confirm the type of replacement I need? Is it this: 33K to 91KMetal Film 0.6W Resistors : Metal Film : Maplin
Thanks for your advice - if it wasn't for this page I may well have gone mad.

Hi, Really need some help with this. I have narrowed down the problem on my Marantz PM66 KI to the R806 resistor. The problem is this: The resistor has been charred and I can't figure out the colours on it. Can anyone tell me the answer? I need to buy and insert a replacement resistor!

Hi, there is another thread here in the solid state forum on tweaking this amp, the members there should be able to help you as they have this said amp and or possibly schematics. Use the search facility and search for pm66 KI tweeks.

Hi guys
I read about all the interesting repair options and i still couldn't find the fault with my amp.
Thing is this: several years ago while rewiring my speakers, i had misplaced the +ve and -ve of my right speaker cables and inserted them in reverse to my Marantz right channel. Almost immediately i lost my right channel, only left channel works.
Now that i had shifted house, i thought i could use an extra amp. I took it out & tried to find R802/807 as mentioned here but they are ok. I checked all the resistors that had been lifted, both right then left channels, they are all giving me readings. I am about to give up.
I would like to ask if anyone here can provide any solutions to this. I am not into electronics so i borrowed a multimeter to test it out. I hope someone can direct me to the solution.
Many thanks in advance.
Nick

Hey guys, I've followed this thread an it's been a whole lot of use so far, but I'm still having some issues with my amp.
This was my first bit of DIY and I think it's gone OK. I replaced the R802 as it had blown but also the R806 as it looked quite charred too.
Now the amp powers on and makes the "clunk" sound, but that's it. Still no output from the speakers whatsoever.
If anyone has any more idea that would be a massive help. Thanks!

Hi guys, another KI with problems - the (+) output terminals are not tightening anymore. I doubt if replacements are available. If anyone knows of diy fix or where I could get some replacements would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

just go to maplin!
hi guys - thanks to all who tried and tested Netlist's suggestion of r802 r807 as the target for replacement/repair for the 'power up led - no audio' problem.
I would like to add that replacing r802 did not solve the problem in my case -even though r807 seemed serviceable when tested with dvm. However - replacing both r802 and r807 got the PM66 ki audio working again - for those who were unsuccessful with a srtaight forward r802 replacement, try replacing r807 as well.
It worked for me! Hope it works for you.

Thank you so, so much! After 15 years spent in the basement, my loved amp is alive!Guys,
Check R802 or/and R807 (47R)
Let us know if that worked.
