....Yet a third option is splashing out 40£ or so for audiophile grade fuses....
You can buy a lot of BEER for £40 !
Some music sounds a lot better that way, too

The CD63 benefits much more from fuse bypass than the 67 due to its servo psu layout. When the laser reads you can get a voltage drop of 4V on the +/- rails. Even in play mode the drop can be 2V and fluctuating.
Shorting the fuses out halves this volt drop, adding a large cap to that rail irons out even more voltage fluctuations. What you get is a player that times music better, smoother more dynamic and delivers much more bass. This then renders the thin sound comments when the HDAM is bypassed as non applicable.
On the large upgrades we do (also my own of course) it is best to add a much larger TX to this rail also so that there is no more than a 0.1V drop.
I have just build a off board psu for a customer to power these rails. It consists of 1x 160VA tx , 4x 25V 22000uF SI caps , +/- 12V SPower regs and a few other little parts. The outcome is simply superb.

Agreed!
I use copper bar in my mains leads with de oxit treatment 😉

Interesting stuff. I've heard players you've modified with no HDAM that have big powerful bass so I'm prepared to say it's not needed for good bass, it's just Marantz that needed it 🙂
Lee heard it here on Wednesday!

Yep. Very smooth and detailed as expected with all those mods.
I hadn't heard a cd63/7 for quite a while and I have to say that I'd forgotten how good they can be.
Also heard a cd63 as a transport with the mega-servo upgrades. Very impressive. Big bad-*** bass and a really smooth delivery, quite surprising that.
Cheers, Lee.

Okay, I'll check it out 🙂
Also, any instructions for regulating the servo driver chips?
This is what the regulators look like fitted. This is before really big caps were fitted and the horrid green wire is gnd! Also in the photo is the clock coax feed to the servo which helps lots too!
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

With respect to the fuses, the only downside to shorting them out (linking them out under the PCB) is that if you make a mistake while further modding anything on the 5v rail, you could do damage to the PSU componets or transformer winding. Personally, I'd leave it till last!

I dont use the copper bar that Brent didn't send me cos I don't use mains cables, my system is wireless 😕
Best way. I leave mine unplugged and never turned on. It's just too much of a fire hazard switching it on and listening 😀
Here is a pic of some of my regs on the servo from 2008

LOL Some muppet will buy them for their CD63 not knowing the front panel of a genuine KI is recessed. They don't look very genuine either. They look like a copy of the later badges.
