The decoder itself produces 11.2896MHz on pin 1. The applied clock is probably PLL'ed or divided to create the actual clock the device is working with internally. Maybe this output is just that? The sheet says 8MHz is minimum, so it should work I guess. I'd say just give it a try!

There's just one little thing I found, on page 13. Under 'Speed control' the decoder can be specifically configured for a 16.9 or 33.8MHz crystal, could this indicate other values are not valid? 😕

I tend to find ics work only with frequencies that are a division of each other (like 8.46, 16.9 and 33.8). But like you say it's not hard trying.

I think you have the options in fig 26 in the datasheet. 33.8 or 16.9 but with different cap values etc. I did something similar to change a cd5000 but didn't really notice any difference

Ray, if you won't buy her a pink soldering iron, you should at least get her a pink cd player to modify.:happy2:

Fellas I have another thread going for my Cambrdge A1 amp (sorry for being off topic), now I just fitted a schaffner mains filter and replaced all the left and right channel screened cables with high quality silver coax, also replaced the out put wire from amp to speaker terminals with same coax but with outer and inner twisted togther and run shortest direct route under PCB.
This seems to have brought the mid range right forward and cleaned the treble very slightly (waiting for op amps to be delivered as replacing them as well)

Could replacing the cables make that much of a difference? as I can't believe my ears, took some getting used to.
