Hi gentlemen,
some decoder on the Bay:

Any risk of copy or pin compatible lower performing part?

Well, all Marantz CDx3 were sold on eBay... at ridiculously high prices. If I must put 300€ on a CD63 I'll check what's new on tiwsted pear audio...
Anyone with a lonely SAA7345?
It seems that there is only the GP package as far as I understand the datasheet. I may order the asian one soon if no hope to find a donor...

How much!!! You sure about that? I got 2 63's that needed lasers for less than £10 each and one of them had a remote! 😕
A CD43 at 40€ and a CD53 at 60... maybe one day I can find cheaper but right now again I'm not in the land of HiFi. Check the prices on eBay.fr, you'll be surprised...
Matthieu, I'm pretty sure I have a decoder chip in a drawer somewhere, that was removed from an old player. You can have for the cost of the postage if you like.
Just send me an email.
Lee.

On a different note, my transformers should at last arrive tomorrow. So I'll at least be able to test with a tx that's designed for audio.
Cheers, Lee.
Cheers, Lee.
A little off topic but... did anyone ever use lacquer to paint the underside of the boards ?
I believe I got some issues due to the use of a lacquer and would like to be sure.
Ricardo
PS
Lee... are you going to install the tx today ?

Hi all
I've been looking around for a cheapo mod for the 63, i found coax.
Am i right in thinking you use a mini 75ohm cable, such as http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=269 and use to connect the clock signal for both dac and servo?
If this is so whats the correct method of cabling up and what are the benefits?
Cheers all

Hi Ian
The cable looks good. If you decide to use it for signal transfer between mech and HF amp, be sure to connect the braided screen to gnd on only one side.
Regarding clock connections, I never used cable because my two clocks are placed very near the dac and servo.
As for the digital output, these players are so good (after some mods) that I do not see the point in using an external dac. Do you believe shorting the digital output might be benefitial ?

Lacquer can cause issues if it is not fully dry.
Hi Brent
After 1 week, the lacquer should be dry and I got rough times with some boards.
Can I use fingernail lacquer remover (thinner) to remove the lacquer from a built board ?
