Glenn I have no idea. Think I would stick with RCRC if it's known to work!

Glenn2 said:Hey Ray - do you think the newer generation of DACs like the Crystal 'super' DACs offer superior sound over older ones like the NPC?
For example, is your SA-8400+Tent Flea+output stage significantly better than a 63/67 with the same treatment? (for red book...)
How is that SA-7001 going?

The CD63ki can dig up loooaaads of detail!! Every little piano stool creak, page moving or lip noise Diana Krall makes can be heard! What more is there???

Are they a bit clumsy in operation, like DVD players? And do you know if they buffer the data off the disc as is becoming more common these days?
Just wondering if an SA-7001 would be a better home for my Tent clock+PSU and Zapfilter.... 😉

I dare to say the SA7001/8400 will beat any CD63/67 when properly modded. They offer more resolution and detail, great depth in the soundstage. These players go sky-high with a proper clock and outputstage. I had to change my tweeters and interconnects to unleash their full potential 😀. I'm actually thinking about selling one of my CD67s, because I never use it anymore...

Eek! Look at that thing! A cheap Sony transport & PCB and KSS laserunit! Eek
!
That means it is not that hard to beat with a decent modded Marantz.

Without checking, I think a couple of posters here tried a tube output, and liked the results. The FET output will do the same sort of job though I'd have thought. And much more neatly. Can't wait to hear mine.

I soldered in my resistors this evening (see pic). They sent me 470R instead of 470K, which is annoying. So it's nearly complete. I'll sort out mounting some voltage regs tomorrow and hopefully get a successful test done!![]()

Excellent - it also looks like you have the transistors the right way round too 😉
