Re: Re: Re: OFF TOPIC - schroeder diffuser
Hi Simon
Tks for your advise, I will do it soon.

Hi Aquar,
Firstly, I think it's good that you've put a diffuser between your speakers, I'd imagine that helps things a lot.
Secondly, if your rear wall is 4 metres away from your listening position it's probably not a huge problem. But if you can, try experimenting with a diffuser or some sort of furniture/objects that will do a similar, if less effective, job.

BTW, this morning I measured in the reg. circuit (running with 12V DC suplly) and I got:
1. Output = 4.94 V
2. Between zener - ground = 0.8 V (2 zener in seri = 1.6 V)
3. Between LED - zener (LED pin+ / LED pin-) = 2.1 V
4. Between adj.pin - ground = 3.7V
Here is the pic ( sory with a bit blur.....by phone cellular)
What's the voltage value of the two zeners? Looks like you've connected them in reverse (conducting forward, like a normal diode), since there's only 0.8V across each of them, like I said earlier. You can use two 1N4148 or similar diodes instead, or leave it in this way. As long as you get the desired 5V 😀. The LED is ok, 2.1V is a normal forward voltage for a green one.

No, they're forward biased PN junctions then, just as quiet as any other. Noise comes from the breakdown mechanism when reverse-biased into conduction.

Well thanks, just a pic of me not sober, with some cue chalk on my face

A LED or two would do a good job here too, much less noisy than a zener.

Alright ... I just exchanged the OPAMPS for the LM4562NA ... And the sound is tighter.
A tighter bass and highs ... but it seems I lost a little detail.
Is this possible ?
Would better caps around OPAMPS solve this ?
(for that matter, what do better caps DO for the OPAMPS/Sound ?)

This thread is tooooooooooooooo long 😀
I've just got hold of a CD63SE to play with. I'd like to try the LM4562 but struggling to source it in the UK, anybody any ideas?
Also..........Is there a list of what you guys have been doing over the last 4000000 posts?? just a general overview really??

Let the op amp settle in for a week first. It is a very neutral opamp with no gain in one or two particular areas. BG caps are superb around the opamp in the marantz gear.

Hi and welcome to the thread.
The op amps are sourced from National Semiconductors and you can order 3 sample ones for free. I have actually ordered 40 from them direct but the lead time is 4 weeks.

Yeah, I figured that ... Because the sound got better when I was listening to more CDs last night 😉
But ... can someone tell me what those caps around the OPAMPS DO for the sound in since of quality/detail/bass/etc ?

Not anymore ... you have to pay shipping and handling because they are now in high demand ...
Cost me $22 to send to the Netherlands. $1.79 for the OPAMPS themselves, and the rest was shipping/handling from Singapore 😛

There is a LM4562 group buy on the forum.

What you pay depends on your email address!!
I originally received 4 samples FOC.
Then I had to pay postage and packing for the next 2 lots of 3.

Impossible to do, really!!
Ray [6h5c] has a good list of mods with pictures on his site but we could do with the help of the moderators to insert an index at the start of the thread !?

My Mods - successfully 'complete'
I have just completed replacing my CD-63 KI op-amps with AN823s, and am faily well blown away by the difference.
So much more controlled bass, much tighter and drier sound, and much less confusion in the upper-mid during complex tracks. I can hear much more information in the tracks too which is a bit spookey.
This complements well the Net-Audio Rockclock2 upgrade made last year.
I also tried the cheaper OPA2604, which offered no real improvement over the original op-amps.
I wonder if anyone has swapped out AN823s for LM4562s or one the more expensive models i.e. OPA627
Though....I am still to find a torroidal transformer replacement - I killed my transformer during the RockClock upgrade, and was sent for free a CD-63 transformer by a very kind forum member.
Any other quick-win improvements that I should make?
Cheers.

LM4562 is better then the OPA627! even more so with the price difference.
I have run most opamps and the 627 was my favorite but now its the LM4562 as its just more natural and less false. The LM is similar sounding to my discrete output.
