I made my order yesterday, so you could easily have got the same monkey-fudge-packer, LOL!DRC said:I have 6 on order, dispatched monday pm acording to maplin, hopefully not by the same packer that did SimontY's !!!! I wonder how long their stocks will last at this rate ...
I do wonder just how many they have left, £5 is a rather good price 🙂 Having said that, we might be the only ppl to buy them, hehe.
Happy Birthday SimontY.
I would buy some, but they only handle 30W and at 86.4dB effieciency, you're not going to get much SPL from these things.
In a small sealed box they would probably go lower than my current mains though... 😀

Not really shops AFAIK, just the trade-counter where all their buildings are at in Leeds. I was a student at Leeds Met., and got a friend to drive me there, persuaded him it would be fun, little did he know... Also, there is a superstore Maplins in Leeds, which was quite nice. Sheffield just isn't the same 🙁5th element said:All the things ive got from farnell have been fine although I always buy with them online, didnt even know they had shops😀
Thanks mate!Matttcattt said:Happy Birthday SimontY.

Think of them as price vs. performance, that's how I'm looking at them - 4 in one (still rather small) speaker cab will be efficient, and provide sufficient area to move a little bit of air. And 4 cost £20 - less than the 8" version was meant to cost! Now, buy some!! 😉
How will the sensitivity change when paralleling three or four please, anybody?
200 left, cool!

I just got off the phone and they said there were only 7 left! Luckily my sister lives next door to the head depot in Yorks so I got her to pop across and get me a couple.
Should go nicely with the Linaeum dipole tweeters I've had hanging around for ages to make a couple of sats.

7!!! If they don't send me mine, I'll be asking for the 5" version!Ian J said:I just got off the phone and they said there were only 7 left! Luckily my sister lives next door to the head depot in Yorks so I got her to pop across and get me a couple.

when you add to your basket online it removes them from stock. if i add 200 to my basket now and you enquire, they will say there is only n - 200 remaining until they are either removed from the basket, or session expires.
Sure, I noticed that. But, mine may have been taken off the stock already, as they *think* they've processed my order in it's entirity. But hopefully those 8 are still there, on top of those 7 etc....
so I must have enquired while you had your 200 in the basket Vikash. Are they still there? What are you going to do with 200? A very large line array perhaps...?
Sorry for scaring you Simon, I'd be tempted to get on the bus up to Wombwell and get them from the source!

Id get on the phone to them and make sure dont wanna loose em if you can help it.
Now now simon no need to shoot the messenger 😀, the omega carrier is not to blame, that idiot at maplins is, what btw is the order code printed on your maplins order form thingy that comes with the shipment?
I wouldnt condem them that soon, you do get reasonable SPL out of them, remember audax power ratings are somewhat conservative and most of the time with music your not going to be using 30 watts sine wave type power.

5th element:- any ideas what to put these with, have you got any further with any cabinet designs, Crossovers etc.. and if you have would you mind sharing them??
This looks like it is turning in a little UK thing.......
we could have a gallery and everything, alll becuase of a 4 quid speaker

The invoice had the correct order code, I checked. And the right description and price and name. Just packed wrong.
I quite often get these things wrong but ...
Assuming the spec is 2.83V (rms) / 1M = 84.7db = 1.3W @ 6ohm
I make it ~110db/1M at 30W for a single drive ~113db for a pair.
Plenty loud enough for me I think ...

Right my idea is to do a 2.5 way with mine, 2.5way should have slightly higher impedance then a MTM because the .5 driver wont be used all the way up to where the main woofer is.
Im going to use sealed probably of about 10 litres internal volume for both drivers.
Crossover, im not sure yet, Ill probably try for about 2-3khz 4th order linkwitz acousitcs slopes, or even 2nd order. Im gonna use a morel MDT30(thats what wilmslow sold them as but they look suspiciously like MDT20's and they had MDT30sticker on em). Either way 2.5way 2-3khz with MDT30?? sealed in a box of about 10 litres.
I will ofcourse post results of how these turn out and what crossover I have used. I do have a pair of TM025F1 tweeters used elsewhere, I dont see why I couldnt design another crossover to use those too if anyone would be interested in actually building a pair. Dont hold your breath mind you, im in uni approaching exams and have got some work to do. I will be making these after the exams, unless I get bored one weekend and decide to make the cabinets.
😀
I was right ...
Ooops, I think a better estimate would be 100db for a single @30W and 103db for a pair @60W total.
Dave, now the owner of 6 drive units 😎

Well, im thinking of buying a pair of TM025F1's from maplin, so I might buy a pair of these to get my free postage. 😀 They might go alright together, and I could scrap my crappy mains. Or if im using these, I could choose a different tweeter...

sounds good, the morels are a bit rich for my pockets for this project and so am going to utilise a tm025f1, I would certainly be grateful if you work out the crossover for this arrangment for me (i think some onre else may benefit too 😉 )
I too am enetering exam season, I thought it may be good to have an escape hence this project. I studying for my finals of my Bsc (hons) in engineering at South bank Uni in London what about yourself??
