Poisone curve. If it is gonna failo it is more likely to happen early.Everything electronic. Doesn’t matter if its Apple and testing only gets. afew out of the way. Why there iswaranty.

The Poisson curve counts but of course it is about the amount/numbers. Some products have a few % of such defects and others a few % more. People that have owned Japanese and American cars know such.
We’ll see. If the return rate is around 5% the word gets out quickly usually. They were introduced only 5 months ago and mass production started this year.
Only yesterday I learnt that the USB-C ports also have an issue when connecting slow peripherals. That is what the new owner had found out before he bought mine.

In an unexpected spiral of luck despite my "I hate life" spiral (and questionable mental health) I got an M2 24/512 for half its price. Already had an M2 8/512 version which also is good (enough) for many tasks.
Tremendous machine. Unlike the M4 that does indeed seem to have quality issues also at others. Unless Apple improves the design of M4 I predict the M2 will go slightly up in value after initial value loss because of "new is better". Can not recommend the M2 enough, it runs circles around Intel based Macs and is lightning fast. Despite fantastic marketing stories I don't notice any difference with M4 in real life speed with my applications.

As expected there is a pattern noticeable as I hear too often of similar experiences. Often they appear after an OS update (last one being 15.5 of 12 May 2025) and reboot or a user reset to factory settings and reboot. The solution may differ as some can be recovered with a second Mac and some need a new SSD or even logic board. As usual Apple does not publish anything about this. Repair of my sample went flawlessly, no criticism there.
My conclusion is that the Mac Mini M4 as of may 2025 is not (yet) of the known Apple quality of previous Mac Mini models. Maybe the software (and possibly hardware) will be adapted/changed for better survivability of user resets and macOS updates after the 12 may 2025 Sequoia 15.5 update. Time will tell. For sure Mac Mini M2 does not have these issues as I tested both an 8 gb and a 24 gb RAM model deliberately with aforementioned actions multiple times and they survived (as they should). If you own an M1 or M2 better keep it, both are fine machines one can depend on.

If there was a statistical significant "issue" with the M4 Mini we would hear about it. You were just unlucky - sorry about that. And yes, you will always find someone else that had the same problem. A mac geting unresponsive after an update - woooo ;-D

You do hear about it as it is statistically more than average. That is the whole point.
No need to say sorry to me. I sold the M4 directly after repair but some in my circle had the same after 15.5.

- MacMini M4 ... is it still of known Apple quality?
