Triode_al, that is why devices made by Apple usually have both interfaces even the new models. USB-A for slow stuff and USB-C and Thunderbolt 3/4 for fast stuff. I would feel like a clown to have a wired USB-A keyboard or webcam connected with an adapter to USB-C.
The various couplers, adapters and other inbetween stuff are key with Apple but I am too technical to use such stuff (also not using cheap Ali stuff on expensive computers). I use USB-C with USB-C etc.

but I never had an issue having Apple make things right for issues happening weeks from purchase.
Me either, and i have owned MANY. I also worked at Mac retailers and like most electronics, in Apple's case rare, there is a hardware failure, they follow a possion curve. 95% ++ problems are software.

Since 1990, I have only seen gunked up fans, but no other hardware problems. And we had a LOT of Macs, of all models.
You know what they say about denial. Denial won't solve anything just like comparing the past to the now. The energy you had when you were 20 (and the chicks DID adore you then) but now.....
Like your doctor telling you he has thousands of patients all healthy. Except you.
Denial is not the brightest thing to do.

I have a fanless miniPC whose problems became clear after the (limited 12 month) warranty period.
A pain

Needed a new sink and faucet after water damage (new walls) which took me months to fix. Bought both from a known German A brand on whose stuff one could rely on. The sink has a skewed hole for the used water (!?) and the hole for the faucet is too large (?!) and also skewed and uneven. The sink is of course mounted level. The faucet has a too short C clip and this causes it to eat itself in the ceramic surface. The flexible hoses are hard as copper pipe and can be bent in shape (!?). Stuff that one could install with closed eyes for ages now takes days of reclamations etc. Do I let the A brand get away with this? What is the "A" still worth? Will fanboys now say their sinks to be OK? 🙂 Yeah mine also were the past decades.

The age of appearance, when everything is built at a cost 10 times lower, with the appearance of 10 times that cost, and designed to require replacement 10 times as often.
In manufacturing by big public corporations, shareholders reward the highest margins possible on retail products.
That incentivizes manufacturers to fill up the feature list and make the product look oh-so-pretty, even though it might be functionally identical to some cheaper product of the same type, or not work so well, requiring firmware updates right out of the box, etc.
Then add better than average customer service to make sure the retail customers remain happy and don't return the products for refund.
The only cure is to stop buying those products.
Some of us used to build our own PCs (many running Linux) so we knew the quality of the various components we used to put those things together.
That used to be a cheap way to get a better performing PC, but those days are pretty much over. Now the only people (in the retail consumer sector) building their own PCs are video gamers. DIY PC building is now more expensive than buying a pre-built PC, or even a laptop.
There are so many other examples of the above, throughout current-day manufacturing of consumer products.
Engaging with reality would be a bright thing to do, though. None of the Apple products I've owned have failed and I've owned quite a few. Does that mean that I'm in denial?Denial is not the brightest thing to do.
The only computer hardware I've had fail – at least that I can remember – was a serial port on a PC some 30 years ago. It probably suffered an ESD strike when I plugged in the null-modem hooked to another PC. I think I had a PC laptop where the wifi died and I had to use a PCMCIA card.
Sorry that we aren't all joining your chorus of outrage.
Tom
Yes. The most stupid thing is to deny other peoples experiences. A shared number one with comments based on different stuff than discussed. Or stuff from the past that has nothing to do with the subject at all. Where does this totally illogical reasoning come from?
First “I hate life spiral” and now “your chorus of outrage”? Why make things personal? It is about a dead chunk of recycled plastic and aluminium totally not worth to go so far with personal comments. Who is not engaging with reality here?
“You can’t have the flue as I haven’t had the flue for 20 years”. Geez.

I'm assuming you mean flu and not flue. I've never denied your experience. As I've said several times, it sucks for you that your computer failed what should have been a routine update. That's unfortunate. But I think you're blowing it out of proportion.“You can’t have the flue as I haven’t had the flue for 20 years”. Geez.
You're the one arguing that those of us who have had positive experiences with computers and Apple are in denial (Post #65). I could just as easily turn the table and ask you if you are denying my experience. After all, your Apple computer broke so therefore it must be impossible that I could have had a positive experience with an Apple computer; never mind several positive experiences.
Your first post reads more like an emotional rant than a question or starting point for conversation. You ranted about design details that you could easily have figured out before purchase. You've probably now spent more time ranting here than it would have taken you to take the computer back to Apple for repair. What are you looking to gain from this discussion? I suppose we all need to vent at times, but still... Then when we don't all come to comfort you, we're in denial or denying your experience. C'mon, dude...
On a personal note – and I say this out of concern for you – are you ok? I could be entirely off base here, but you seem to see dark clouds everywhere even though the sun is shining from a bright blue sky right behind you. At least that's the vibe I have gotten from your posts in the past year or two. I don't remember getting that vibe earlier. I suppose your mental health is none of my concern, but I thought I'd ask. You don't have to answer here – or at all. But I'd invite you to at least think about it a little. Maybe ask someone close to you if they've made similar observations.

I have been drifting that way too, I think. Since COVID, really.
I find it hard to be upbeat about the state of the world lately. My rational mind even leads me to think we are regressing to darker ages.
But winter is nearly over, here, and as I spend more time in the sun, I find myself caring less about things that are beyond my control.
You're not alone. And the current state of affairs isn't helping either.I have been drifting that way too, I think. Since COVID, really.
Mindfulness and acceptance can be helpful.

Below the belt (again). Like arguing with a borderline woman. No normal man reacts like this and certainly not in public.I'm assuming you mean flu and not flue. I've never denied your experience. Good lord. I wasn't arguing. I was expressing concern. That's fine. You be you. Best of luck to you.

Tom
Thanks for questioning my mental health in public out of sincere concern. Appreciated 🙂
The thread is about a defective device and what seems to be diminishing quality, folks. Not your wife having an affair, don’t get wound up over material stuff. You can live without it. If you think your life depends on Apple you missed an exit lane somewhere.
