I myself did a HT build with the CHR70 last year for a friend. They do quite well crossed at 80hz. If you're planning on going as high as 100hz with the sub then sealed boxes might be just fine.




did you make those out of MDF? only a newbie around here, but i thought ply was recommended.

Ply is certainly recommended. It's stiffer. However I highly doubt (unless very well trained) that you could hear the difference in any case. For that build MDF was more than adequate seeing as how it was for a friend of mine who is not an audiophile.
My general rule is if I stain then I build with birch; if I plan on painting then I'll build from MDF. Getting a smooth finish from paint on birch would take significantly more work.
