Sorry to have bothered with this. It turns out I need to set the .ac amplitude in the sine voltage source to 1. I found this out by downloading an AC analysis example from LT and checked to see how it differed from mine...

I use Wineskin Winery on the mac to run the windows versions of many audio programs, including LTSpice. Most just work, unless they use the .net frameworks.
