Why keep quiet about it?
You've seen the distortion profiles.
"Oh yes, we have this super low distortion amplifier and driver combination, and this rock-solid cabinet, and then we introduce a small circuit that stops you blowing the thing up, while introducing some distortion of its own."
The HiFi people would never go for it.
I don't think that the distortion from the limiting action is bad at all. This is typically used for a subwoofer application. If my circuit has 1% distortion and the driver has 10% distortion at full excursion or when overdriven, and my circuit prevents that, what's the problem? You've seen the distortion profiles.
I think that many limiter implementations DO induce large amounts of distortion, e.g. 10% or more, or "chirping" or "clicking" sounds. But my approach should avoid those effects.
