Says he who claims the 78xx series is good enough!!
Why? Anyone can make bland claims but without evidence to back them up they have no validity
I think I'll stick with Linear Technology's list of suggested uses for the LT3045 until I done the auditoning.
It's up to you. You can spend 10 or 20 times more for the same result. You will not hear any difference.
Take the three best low noise LDO... I surmise only the use of different caps (dielectric) on the boards will give a different sound signature !
.... have some 7805 to sell : 50 euros each 🙂

What is a sound signature?
Achievement of nirvana, the ultimate and final emptiness, that's
what constitutes the sound of pure DC.
But then, high end audio was the first field test of alternate facts.
unfortunately, alternative facts have been around longer than that.
which one of these is fallible?

That is indeed a worthwhile difference! Another one bubbles to the top of 'preferred parts' 😉

The problem with many of these small devices WRT diy use is their fine pin pitch, which is commonly 0.5mm. Mounting and soldering these by hand is a practical challenge for many of us.
I suppose it is the 500mA variant of 3042 - everything else equal?
diyralf - dont you like the 3042?

Just found an ebay seller (in Dubai though) who is selling LT3045 boards that are designed to be drop-in replacements for 7805 (vertical 3 pin)
$22USD incl. shipping. Not bad.
LT3045 Ultralow-noise (0.8µVRMS)LDO linear regulators 0V-15V - 0.5A, 78xx Layout

Thanks for pointing that out!
His post, as well as his site ldovr.com are much easier to navigate than on ebay

The soul of DIY is to have better performance than you really need but I think in many cases there will be an improvement of having very high PSSR and a low noise. You won't get an improvement.
Give a drop of water into the sea. No rise in sea level.
Diyralf is posting fake news as he has not even tried these regulators (proof of this in another thread). LT3042/3045 are a revolution in the regulator world. They are absolutely fantastic in specs. Wholeheartedly recommended.
In any case of doubt : * Not a single device will perform worse when using this regulator * 😀
Don't wait for the rest of the world to tell you it is good but buy one of these and test it:
Low-Noise LT3042 Linear Regulator Power Supply Board DC Converter Overvoltage | eBay
For this price this board can not be perfect but it does work OK. Usual suspects are the unmarked diodes and filter cap (is it original ?) It should be noted that it is not short circuit proof as it has a bypass transistor. That one makes that it can deliver 1A ( I did not test max. current but earlier on they stated 1.5A) Try this one out and report here how you like it and if you think LT3042 is a reg worth the money. Fight prejudice and assumptions !
