Dear Grey,

> the parcel from Grey has yet to appear. Since it was sent 29th January and is not quite 5 weeks yet as Grey mentioned in a few posts previous, I propose to give it one more week, and then I shall regretably have to ask Grey to claim insurance and send again.

The parcel is now underway since 29 January, i.e. 38 days in total. In the meantime, I have received a pack of transistors per post from Japan and that only took 4 days.

The addresse owns a company at the address you sent to, so he is well known to the local post office and the chances of losing it locally is hence remote. Also the German Post's Parcels are handled by DHL (owned by Deutsche Post) and they can pretty much trace anything if there is a number.

Since you are the sender of an insured parcel, only YOU are in a position to check whether it has been lost and hence claim insurance. There is unfortunately nothing I can do at this end. Some gentleman has suggested it might take 4.5 months, but I don't believe that is a reasonable time to claim insurance.

May I therefore ask you to kindly check with the American Post, and if necessarily claim insurnace for costs of goods and postage, and send us 100 FETs again please.

Terribly sorry for the extra trouble. It is unfortunately one of these things, and I am already having impatient group-buyers asking me at this end.

Best Regards,
Patrick

My wife got home, I turned the young 'uns over to her and called the PO. I got a recording saying that they were too busy to answer the phone, but that if I'd leave my name, number, and a brief message, they'd get back to me...you know the drill.
I'll let you know as soon as I get any further information.

Grey

Grey,

I presume you send it by insured post as agreed. So then I presume that you have a piece of paper with the details of the parcel and as a proof for the insurance.

Could you send me a scan copy of that piece of paper, and then we'll see whether the German Post can do something with it to find out the status ?

If it were lost, then the only person who has legal right to claim insurance is yourself, I am afraid. I can only try to see whether we can locate it here, but I would not bet on that.

I think if you could find time to appear at the Post Office counter, then they would have to attend to your enquiry, right ?

Sorry for the extra work.

I'll skip the intermediate steps--this is where things stand:
The USPS has the information from the insurance tag, the address on your end, my address, etc. My understanding is that the investigation will begin in Germany and work backwards.
I am told that it could take as long as 60 days to resolve this. Ugh.
As I've said before, my opinion of both the postal and banking systems has dropped precipitously since this JFET thing began. Of the two, banking has taken the greater hit, but the USPS is not blameless.

Not that I want to squeeze into this matter, but here is a little experience of mine. 3 month's ago I ordered 3 books from the US.
(through Amazon) 10 days later the bookselling company emailed me and told that the first title was dispatched. Good service I thought, sending them out on the fly, so to speak. Another 2 weeks passed and an email appeared with info on the next title was shipped. 3 weeks later (with no books on the mailbox yet) the third email dumped in, with info about the last title was dispatched. What happened next? The last dispatched item arrived in less than a week  A week later the item sent out secondly arrived. And guess what, two days ago the first sent title arrived😀 I was surprised to see it, indeed (but happy, since it was "Escaping the Delta" mainly about Robert Johnson's life🙂 They were sent through USPS!
I am not surprised that those J-fets didnt arrive yet. There is still a good chance that they will show up, I think.

Steen,

It's been 6 weeks !!

And since we have paid insurance, I think at least we should check and report possible loss.
I also have obligation to the other guys to take some action.

As I said, I dont want to squeeze in, but the USPS are most unreliable! I met a guy at the postoffice some time ago. He was there to collect a package that had been missing for 4 and a half month! By all means, collect your insurance money, but dont be surprised to see the package pop up later 🙂 I have been through the thing about waiting GB'ers😀 Beleive me 😉 Just refer them to this thread.

Zeljko, Valeriano, Magnus,

Grey has sent me the insurance number, and we checked with the German Post this morning. They do not have that number on their record at all, and hence could not help us to trace where it might be.

So our hope is that Grey will get the US Post to find it or give us our money back, so that Grey can send another 100 again. I guess just one of these things that happens.

In the meantime, please bear with me and Grey. We shall do whatever we can.

Regards,
Patrick
