I will have to replace the dome tweeters on the 2-way I use, and there are not that many to pick from.
That is not that many when I fill what I need:
1) Low FS, between 500 and 1K.
2) Flat frequency response, with not peaks. This sort of eliminates all metal domes.
3) Affordable price. Less than $ 60 each at most.
Considering all that, my short list seems to have reduced to just two SB Acoustics types: SB26STC-C000-4 and SB29RDC-C000-4.
It would be interesting to have other options.
Who's testing tweeters on the web? Zaph Audio had been the choice until 2008. But there have not been any updates to his tests, AFAIK.

Osvaldo, have you ever measured what happens to the FR if you put a tweeter in front of a woofer like that? It is not nice.

Personally I think their FR and THD curves are exemplary.
As for tweeters I am quite fond of Vifas D27TG-35-06 and Scanspeaks D2606/922000 and D2608/913000.

No, sincerely no, because I have no such instrumentation, and no sufficient space, but listening them are comfortable.
Note that I dislike say "sounds better than..." or "worse than...", because I had no point to compare. Also, I´m not musician, so I can't affirm they sound pretty fine. I only say I like its sound. No more tan it.

BTW, I forgot to mention. The tweeter I would be replacing, and hopefully improving, is a Morel MDT30S.

I think the SB29's are you best bet. And yes, I have listened to them. They are not the match for an HDS for smoothness, but a cut above most others. They can cross over lower than most.
I suppose there is the good old XT25, they are about as smooth/flat as you get, providing you're not crossing them over too low. Almost any new tweeter will require a new crossover though.
The SB Satori tw29r is awesome but little expensive. The SB29RDC0004 I have just installed into a test cabinet with an 8" woofer using a series crossover. I am very impressed so far.

Hey, that's cool. Did you put the crossovers outside the cabinets? Does it have any impact on the sound to put the crossovers inside the cabs? Like, is there an advantage to put them outside? By the way, that looks like a cigar box.

yes the crossovers on all my speakers have external crossovers. As a novice without any measuring equipment, I am constantly adjusting the crossovers.(I suffer from itchy finger syndrome).
I got tired of constantly removing drivers to TWEAK the crossover so all I need do now is open up the case and add or remove the components fairly quickly.
They are actually leather bound jewelry boxes I picked up locally here in Surabaya.
Makes it damn easy now to satisfy those itchy finger moments🙂 .
As for affecting the sound I can't tell you scientifically but I would guess that removing copper from behind a woofers magnet would probably have small affect. Plus it just looks bloody nice with a glass panel so you can see into the crossover....🙂

As long as the cross-over frequency between woofer and tweeter is not more than about 2 kHz, and the listener is not closer than 2 meters to the speaker system, diffraction of the woofer's sound wave by the tweeter should be not noticeable at all. At 2 m or more, the woofer's sound wave has completely filled in behind the tweeter.
Wavelength corresponding to 1 kHz frequency equals about 33 cm or 13 inches. So wavelength of sounds from the woofer is at least twice the diameter of the tweeter.
Is there something else that I'm missing that would affect the sound quality?

Great tweeter, ABOVE 3K. It just does not stop very quick at low frequencies. A price leader for sure.
