Looking for Krell KAV-400Xi schematic / service manual

Aaaah .. my apology 🙏🙏 .... those smd ones instead and yes, I am using 25v ones since same size and my stock ones did not read 16v like yours as well as not knowing better and guessing but now more resilent albeit already newer gya hybrid polymer and not stock nichicon uud polymer type as well as in fact 35v version being the lowest rating ? 😅😅 Cheers.

Haha .. you saw wrong .. not capacitors but resistors for the display .. 3 more in my case for the leds.

For front panel e capacitors, mine are certainly 25v ones of 1000uf Nichicons originally but perhaps 16v in yours are fine if stock or found needing update/upgrade or simply run of 16v ones in mine.

Cheers.

Oh yes, I was more so referring to this.

It says the front panel capacitors being 47uF 25v and I knew I put in 16v so I had to run downstairs and check my pulls to make sure I didn’t make a mistake lol.

Edit: oops, didn’t scroll down far enough and see your next post.

I’m curious Richloh, did your tech make any adjustments after the work was done? I’m guessing I don’t need to make any adjustments, I have about 3 mV of offset on each channel and the amp idles warm, but not that warm and again, after cranking it for awhile it wasn’t alarmingly warm. My OCD would like to take care of it though.

Hi Dan, I asked and he said he did not ... his measurement did not indicated any need to do so while I did not verified what he measured or saw them myself to share and I left it as that.

I had the same query on biasing adjustment and asked Martin below who mentioned that his refurbishment also did not resulted in rebIasing need:

https://mapoulin.wixsite.com/audiobymartin/audio-upgrade

I would also certainly wish to know how I can recheck biasing and had only read of the procedure for kav-300i with different ICs.

I also made some query to Mike below who asked me to contact him directly but I disgressed and did not do so:

Cheers.

Hi Dan, Nice ! Especially Nichicon ES for bipolar input coupling ones 👍👍

A couple of photos for the display and leds which may help you since I am just having its 24 resistors swapped to fine tune its brightness .. just note that the plastic len for the display is dark red and I had modded blue ones for all except mute led when you are considering white one.

No planned transistor swap and cannot help you on that nor done any biasing as my repair workshop and another online owner reported not needed .. dunno enuff to advise.

Cheers.

Richard

Before and after resistors change to fine tune brightness modded blue leds and display to stock power led .. sunglasses on ebay sales 🙂

just picked up a nice example of the 400xi. As with all amps I buy I like to check the bias & DCO, so I looked into the 300i series bias procedure in this thread when it became apparent its not applicable to the 400xi.. as voltages at the bias test points don't make sense, they were all way way low, like 2mV when it should be 12mV.

A few notes. I didn't use a Variac, just wall outlet of 240v (Australia). I've not performed repairs so don't see the need for a variac. I also didn't feed the 400xi a balanced signal. Are these 2 items absolutely mandatory? To me it seems odd a signal is applied in the 300i procedure. All other amps I've biased you don't want a input signal :nownow: Generally you want zero voltage at inputs when biasing

Does anyone have the correct bias and DCO set procedure for the 400xi please?

Thanks

Hi Allan, just contacted Liquid Audio and received their quick response that they do not offer paid consultation/advisory on this biasing/dco info and will have to find alternatives ... strangely my email to Krell Service support now works or at least did not receive error message and hope they will advise such instruction .. fingercrossed. Cheers.
