Looking for a fun speaker idea in a odd space

The wife has decided a tv is needed in the bedroom. So the large 12" pioneers wont fit anymore. Due to drawers, doors, etc I have only 5" both sides, and ~16" deep, but 36-48" tall.

There is an additional 9" behind the tv as well. Ive added a sketch of the working volume.

Would like to get close to the ol 20hz-20k (a sub is allowed if it fits) normal volume is only 60-70,db. But 85-95 db would be nice at 10-50watts for special occasions. No DSP, passive crossover.

Have built 3 sets of 2way ported+CD horn, and a cornscala type build, and half dozen sealed subs. Would like something different! But not too crazy.

Been checking out the Cyburgs-Needle, Perry's shaded array, the bourbon barrel, frugal array etc... all slim stuff. But would love to use more of the space behind the TV. Would love todo some horn stuff.

Budget wise 500usd max 250usd preferable, cheaper with an upgrade path is nice.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Sorry but I can’t envision what you’re asking here from the included drawing or text. My best guess is a stand mounted TV (how big of a screen?) mounted on top of some kind of existing dresser or something that’s against a wall in your bedroom?

Mayhem, your vision was pretty much perfect, the the tv is sitting ontop a book case, to the left is dresser, to the right, the doorway

I've attached a pair of pictures for the space i have to work with for full contex. The dimensions on paper in prior post reflect the space beside, behind and around the TV i have to work with.

Hot off the press! Apparently the space above has also been approved for speaker use! But uh, no boundaries provided....

I dont expect much down low, almost nothing if i use the 5" limit.

But ive got 29x29x9" behind the TV... Sure its gotta work around the TV, but below 100hz it might not be an issue? Down firing exit under the TV?

Excellent idea on under bed! I actually have 16"x15"x72" (currently just a spacer between drawers from when we went queen-king).
I do have some of those cheap JBL 12" floating around. Even a pair of prv 15's...

So many options!

If you do go with a TL under the bed, then a pair of TABAQs siding the TV will get you down to about 50-ish Hz with the 4" version.
The 20 to 50 can be handled by the sub(s).

Bonus. Being under the bed, it will also serve as a seat (bed) shaker for those low rumbling explosions while watching a movie. 🙂

Thanks for the update…..your request is pretty simple to solve as other have mentioned under the bed with all of that available volume. Use this in an LTULF ported box ( low tuned ultra low frequency)

https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-DCS385-4-15-Classic-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-295-206?quantity=1

it’s very efficient with a low Fs . With the 7cuft under the bed you can easily tune this to 20hz with two ports. With a 100w sub plate amp you’re all in for $200 or so

Now just add a shelf behind the TV at the top so that the top edge of the TV hides the shelf edge. Get yourself a wide sound bar and shim in at the rear as to tilt it down to be on the listening ear height and the front of the soundbar is flush with the screen so the screen acts as a baffle extension……done

Now you’ve got 20-20 response well within your budget with good dialogue intelligence and a centering of a center Channel image without the need for a center speaker. Pre owned sound bars are all over FB market place

Awesome! Looking like i got some ideas and plans try out. Thanks!

Going model both sub ideas and see what tickles my fancy 🙂

I love the shelf idea other then the "buy a complete speaker" part. I dont get to make much sawdust that way! Lol
