ebay link

This thing has better stats then the PS1 screen and cost me half the amount.

Total is $82.82 Canadian or $68.66 US

I can't wait to get it😎

I am going to mount it directly to my delta 78 lens and then use a 100watt MH bulb as a light engine. The the whole assembly will go back into my Sony 46" rear screen projection TV and can be watched any time of day:d:d:d

I'll take pics as soon as i get the lcd here.

Hmm... i dont like eldirect much, they rip you off on handling! I bought a sony speaker (broken btw), and the handling was $20 US! Whats the 20$ for? for pluggimg it in, founding out it was damaged, and selling it to me anyway?:smash:

And tvs above like 20" have $25 US handling fees too (atleast they used to):whazzat:

The price you won at seems abit steep to me.

yea that is a good deal... the price you won it at could have been abit lower (i remember some going for under $30) I won a portable VCR with 4"LCD for $44 canadian (thats with all the taxes and handling)... Prices are going up cuz of DIY i guess...

Good luck on your project!!!🙂

Re

That is the exact same screen/controller as the PS1 when you strip it you will see. I have one too, just the game cube verge version. look at the circuit board and you will see on the input connectors circuit traces labelled PS1 and PS2 😉 . Just a note I made a couple of mods I removed the jumper for the video that is inserted into the middle of the circuit, and directly inserted it into the correct connection. You can also do the same for the power, but I didn'd notice ant improvements. It uses a multipin connector to connect to the housing and power supply it is a pain to strip so I suggest getting a 7.5v 1 amp powersupply to power the the screen and insert the power directly into the controller board.

Ok i got my Lcd today by UPS. I let it warm up for about 5 hours as it is -50 degrees celcius here and it was frozen.

Anyways once it warmed up i plugged it into my PS2 and turned it on.

 WOW what a picture, great colors, excellant contrast and the response time even on the fastest of movies/games is more then fast enough.

Enough playing with it, lets open it!😀

So 4 screws later "pop" goes the case and i'm in.

The setup is very DIY'able, the ribbon cable is a 30 pin .5mm pitch ffc cable that has enough length to be able to move the controller board at about a 90 degree angle without stressing the cable.

More later and pics!

I got one of these screens too, a little cheaper though. Still waiting for it to get here. I assumed that the mod could not be performed on it, but if Mission313 is right, then I might give it a try. I guess we will see when it gets here.

Ok i've got pics to share with all of you...HERE
and one video of the disney intro on Finding Nemo.

Of course now that I have recieved the lcd...Staples goes and puts a sale on a BenQ FP531 15" lcd for only $200 CDN.

Well, the 5" lcd is actually too big to fit the delta 78 lens assembly. When installed to the lens it cuts off the picture around the edges. The delta 78 also has a condenser lens that was used when it had a crt tube in it but then it just blurs the edges. I tried moving the lcd back away from the lens but then the whole thing goes outta focus. I'm sure if i had more room that i could put a fresnel lens in there and it would work but no room 🙁

I already had the thought of building a custom box for it but there is only about 6" of room to spare in the TV's cabinet so no luck there.

If no one wants it then i'll just build a custom enclosure and use it as a projector or slap it in my van for the kids to watch movies on.

Hey Tekko

Did you ever get this 5" monitor working. I just got mine, but it only had the PS 12 pin connector for an input. I worked out the pin 6 is the composite video pin, but can't seem to get it to do anything, not even turn on. When I plug in the power, the blue power led goes on, but the screen stays blank. Does yours do this too.

My original plan was to do the vga mod similar to the psone lcd, and although the pcb behind the lcd is identical, it is missing the other controller board that the vga wiring was soldered to for the mod.

Let me know how you are doing with this one.

Time to blow some life in this old thread. The lcd arrived yesterday and after a 3 month boat tour and fell from a closet 2 meters up it still works, as we have 230v @ 50Hz i had to build my own power supply for the screen but it works and i think this will make gordon happy.

One point of note is that this screen is a 2.5" and not a 5" as gordon has stated before.
