Yes, step 1 gives you a clean sheet. You should find no sites you use recognise you in any way with a clean browser.
IE and Firefox should operate totally independently, however cookie files and bookmarks are able to be used by any browser that you import them into. That's how something like Firefox can ask during install, 'do you want to import settings from IE'. The bookmark and cookies work in any browser.

cookies.txt is 5kB
That's tiny... which is good because it means you haven't much info to set up should you wish to do so from scratch. I have around 40 sites in 'Favourites' that are all set up with log in data and preferences. Even things like BBC weather where you can pick locations to have on instant click. All that is remembered by the cookies.
And that's why its a pain to rebuild it from scratch and why a cookie file is so important to me. Browser clean, import cookies and its all back to A1 condition.
To rebuild it all is around 30 minutes work, that's to make a new cookie file and copy and paste all the different passwords into the sites. So you aim to only do it once 😉
Thats happened to me on other VBB sites also and if you just REFRESH the page when that occurs, you will see yourself logged in 🙂AndrewT said:Did F5 and then ctrl+F5
then log in + password
I still get thank you and then back to log in page
That does not work.
But I now have DIYaudio Log In working on both PCs.
And Thanks for the suggestion.
It is now the Gmail Log In that has gone on this PC only.
I found the Gmail Help Forum.
Lots seem to have the same problem, after normal operation for months/years. Suddenly changes to invalid request.
The first page offered a solution that works.
unclick the "Enable Protected Mode" in the Internet Options - Security .
But every page comes up with protected mode is turnoff. and Gmail let's me log in.
So I went back to Internet Options - Security and clicked on Enable Protected Mode.
Shut down IE and re-opened and Gmail is invalid request.
That confirms it is IE that is sending the wrong data to google.
I'll see if I can find a solution in all the other Help pages.

tried adding https://mail.google.com to trusted sites.
It came back saying it was already listed in local intranet. Do you want to move it. Yes.
It still goes to invalid request.
for gmail.com and mail.google.com and preceding them with https://

Success.
remove https://mail.google.com from trusted sites
add http://gmail.com to restricted sites
When I look at sites I see http://*.gmail.com
is it safe to leave my Email account in restricted sites with "Enable Protected Mode" clicked to ON?

I'm not a security expert but I can't see any real issues there.
(You seem to be having to jump through a lot of hoops to get all this working when it should straightforward. A clean PC should allow you to log straight in to gmail via the gmail link on Google. When you have done that, set that page (your email) as a favourite)
