Moderators, I note that if I leave the forum and then come back, even 10 mins later, I need to log in again.

Also, I typically use my home computer, an iPad and occasionally my work computer 😉 and I was 'remembered' on all three devcies with only occasional log in requested. I now have to log in on all the other devices as the 'forget' behavior is evident on those machines as well.

Has there been a policy change at diyAudio on passwords/security or is my problem elsewhere?

Hi Bonsai, no change that I am aware of. I'm still getting in without having to put in userid and password when I have ticked the box to do so. I don't access for 5 or 6 hours and still goes in.

That doesn't mean it isn't a forum problem though. I'm pretty sure that I have logged out on a different device and the other devices still work, so that to me says it must be something on the server side, if you are getting the issue across all devices...

Tony.

I swapped my internet cable back to my old PC and went to DIYaudio page.
Logged in using my username and password.
The screen changed to Thakyou andrewt for logging in and then went straight back to the log in request page.

I tried logging in from a variety of pages. But all repeated the thankyou and log in sequence.

So I swapped the internet cable back to the rebuilt PC.
log in works OK.

Any idea why I can't log in with my old PC?

It worked fine two days ago.

Started Firefox instead of IE and log in works normally on the old PC.
IE allows me to log in on the new PC.
It's just IE that does not get through the log in properly on the old PC.
It show thank you, but then goes back to the pre-login page.

Found: Tools - delete history and that page with the ticks appeared. Clicked the delete at the bottom.

Then tried again. This time I had to type diyaudio.com in full because all the history was gone.
It did remember my username and I entered password.
Thank you andrewt for logging on, waited a couple of seconds and then returned to the log on screen.
Tried the refresh arrows and same page.

I am an enthusiastic user of the free software tool CCleaner ("Cookie Cleaner"). You can pay money for an Upgraded Full Featured Version but I have been using the Completely Free one on my Mac and on my Windows PC for several years, with very happy results. Yes they also have it for Kindle Fire. No they don't have it for iPhone.

I have configured its Settings to delete ALL cookies and all browser history and all browser caches, when I activate CCleaner. Among other things, this lets me circumvent the paywall at the New York Times website. If NYT detects that you've visited their site three times they stop showing you free articles and instead demand that you subscribe. CCleaner helps them forget all my previous visits.

It's also good if you don't want any of your housemates to view your browser history. Buying an engagement ring? Checking Ashley Madison to see if your adultery partners have messaged you? Visited Nuns_In_Bondage_dot_Com ? Wipe it all away with Ccleaner.

I haven't linked to their site, to avoid any appearance of promotion or salesmanship. If you're interested, find it on a search engine like Duck Duck Go or (one of these)

I did install the recommended CCleaner when I was trying to solve some of my intermittent slow downs: That other Thread.
It turned out that AVG had been doing a good job of keeping my HDD fairly clean.
Again as recommended I uninstalled CCleaner to help clean up the registry.
They also recommended uninstalling AVG because I already had MSE installed.

Once I have a week, or two, of reliable operation with my rebuild PC, I will do a clean install of Win7 on this old PC.

I thought of trying something else.
I shut down IE.
I shut down Firefox.
I opened IE, tools delete history, ticked cookies in addition to all the pre-ticked.
Delete selection.
I shut down IE.
I opened IE.
Same problem.
It lets me log in and answers back with a Thank you andrewt and then shows the log in screen again.

Opened Firefox to let me log in and post this reply.

That's a shame; I use CCleaner four or five times a day, every day, and I love it.

BTW CCleaner includes a "wipe free space" utility on the Tools menu, that overwrites all the unused sectors on your hard drive(s) with zeroes. As everyone doubtless knows, when you "delete" a file, the OS just removes the filename from its disk catalog and puts those disk sectors on the "free" list. Thus it is often possible to recover previously-deleted files, simply by harvesting the data at the end of the "free" list. Private investigators, law enforcement, and hackers do this routinely. So do software utilities like RECUVA which you can download at no cost. Wiping the free space from your drive, completely nullifies this approach. The contents are wiped clean; so are the file name, file size, file creation date, etc. Good if your snoopy roommate is an expert sysadmin, or if you wish to eliminate all evidence that you ever visited nambla.org, so that even Scotland Yard won't find it on your computer.

You need to delete the lot to a full cleanup (all boxes ticked) but DO NOT have the 'Preserve Favourites' box ticked at the very top.

I would also do a disc clean and delete temporary files and any temporary internet files that are showing.
