LM1875 amp €2,250 and my version

TI still makes the LM1875, after taking over NS.

How is the sound quality of the chip amp?

Hello Naresh,

Many thanks for your comment I was not aware that they are still in production. Are they making them with the indents in the sides similar to the TDA2030? I've seen this casing listed as new LM1875's on the sites of various high profile electronic suppliers.

If you would kindly go to this page you may see my little review of the amp: https://lm1875diyamplifier.blogspot.com/p/my-amp.html please scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Best wishes - J

Original LM1875 looks like this. Nothing changed except printing style(laser engraved).

Best Regards

The review just has listening impressions, no numbers, which would allow the test to be replicated.
Posting links seems an effort to attract visits to the blog page of the poster.

It is claimed that the fake 1875 sounds better than a 3886.

The playing equipment, voltage to chip amp, speakers used, and the test equipment are not described, nor is the music played for testing and comparison, among other details expected.

All in all, lacking in quality, in my opinion.
Do not bother to visit, a wasted effort.

Yess, how bad are the copies?

Any A/B testbench measurements made?
The difference is huge if it is fake. Not as powerful as the original & sonically inferior too. But if the product is made by any good second source like UTC or KEC then everything is comparable to the original. Even sometimes they exceeds original product performance (an improved part).

Couple of years ago while making an integrated amplifier i perceived a strong sonic difference between a fake and genuine opamp & funny that the opamp was nothing sort of exotic type but ancient RC4558

Anyways, i completely agree with planet10. Execution & loudspeaker matters too.

Hello there,

I can only point you all to two phrases.

1/. From TNT "You listen to a system, not individual components."
and 2/. From Dave "The loudspeaker being driven also plays a significant role."

Throw your instruments. away and 'listen' your ears are the final arbiters.

Cheers all - J

Hello all,

May I thank all those from right across the world who have by their visits made my website rankings rise dramatically. It's only in the last few day that I have tagged it and allowed Google bots to visit.

I really do appreciate it because I know that you all are the silent majority on this wonderful DIY Audio site who look for truth and not speculation.

My sincere thanks - J

FWIW, I built this one. Power supply is on board. Gerbers are available.
2X18V transformer. 21W per channel.

Approx $150 without a case. Chips form Mouser!

It's going to look nice in the case that I'm planning. Much better than that insanely priced PTP unit.

Unbelievable I built an LM1875 because i was bored Carefully Built to Datasheet specs using Genuine (not chinese shite parts) with a good Torroid type Powersupply. Sounds Pretty good to be honest .
But Nowhere near as good as my Lm3886 amp And definitely not even similar soundwise to my Firstwatt amp.
Lm 1875 is a good computer desktop sound... IF the speakers are of Good quality.. No more.. No less.
All other claims are imo Delusional.
