So far I have never seen a recording that is worth it as far as showing what speakers can do.
They never can be. Although it's always interesting to see another system -especially nicely finished ones. I just wouldn't use it to draw any conclusions beyond that.
Mind blown again today. My wife went to work so took the opportunity to crank my system up a bit and listen to a few tracks which are outside of my normal listening experience. The first track was Highlife by The O Zone Percussion Group. Spectacularly lifelike with massive scale. The drums has some real impact which vibrated not just the couch but my timber floors. I've never experienced this without a sub before. Music not just hear heard though felt through your body and also through your feet. Impressive, particularly given this is a single fullrange driver.
Next up was "You Wanna Stay" off Infected Mushrooms Shroomeez EP. Trippy electronica but fast, impactful, in not way muddled as I'd come to expect with other full range drivers. Nothing is lost here. Not my favourite music but an interesting test nonetheless.
Next up Electrified II off Yellos album, Toy. More detail and instruments audible I've not noticed before and damn isn't that bass just huge! Heck, these things are everything I could have hoped for and more. What is hard to get my head around is that burn in/break in has barely begun. My experience has been anything with gold in it takes a long long time to burn in so maybe a few months on the Mundorf Angelique CAW wire. The drivers will likely be somewhere from 150 to 300 hours but seriously I can't imagine better than what I'm already getting. This is spectacular! 😀

I sit on the middle seat of the couch. Please excuse the mess:

I've actually set headroom management to -3db in Roon as my preamp uses a resistor ladder. I couldn't turn the sound down quite enough for my wife. She's very sensitive to loud sound but when she's out I can crank it 😉
We plan to build a new home in the next year or two and that will have a fair bit larger listening space with an extra 1m along the back wall and we'll be able to sit another 1-2 metres back which should prove beneficial. Our current room is too small.

Thanks for the video.
"Electrified II off Yellos", very interesting..........
"2016 release from the Swiss electronic duo. Yello's thirteenth album - and first in nine years - is a super-smart, electronic smorgasbord of moods and styles from the liquid synths of it's lead-off single 'Limbo' to continental torch songs like 'Dark Side' and the shimmering Balearic sunset moods of 'Blue Biscuit'. Toy is nothing less than the unmistakable sound of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank gleefully working at the top of their game after nearly four decades making music together. (from amazon)
I found yello "toy" on amazon as an import cd, but electrified 2 is missing in the playlist, yet I saw it on youtube under the album.

I also forgot to say the case is cracked. Which isn't a big deal except the missing tracks.

Goodness me, but cranked the system up a bit today (I don’toften get to do this) and bass is the best I’ve heard to date. Not just deep but textured. Bass guitar in Billy Joel’s “River of dreams” was incredible. I’ve never heard it like this before. Sometimes something comes on I’d previously thought was a poor recording and there’s so many more instruments there that it sounds like a completely different song. The more I live with these the more impressed I am by them.
It must be noted most of my listening (when my wife is home) is literally as low as my system will go, with -3db dialed in for “Headroom management” in Roon to play quieter yet. At the lowest volume level the lowest octaves are simply not there but one click up on my preamp and it’s just glorious. Another few clicks up to 4 (pre has about 1000 steps) and it’s just glorious. Go to 10 and it’s clearly overpowering my room. Needs more space to breathe.
Anyway, we will build a new home eventually. It will take care of that. 😉
