Objective
1. Must look cool.
2. Must sound great!
3. No smoke.
Build Details
Power amplifier: Volksamp Pass Aleph 30
Pre-amplifier: Conrad Johnson PV-12 clone (from a kit)
Inputs: Unbalanced auxiliary and phono
Outputs: 2 Balanced channels, selectable stereo & mono and line stage outputs for a powered subwoofer.
Let the build begin!
We'll start with the chassis, it will begin Its life as a rack-mount adapter for a Tektronix Oscilloscope.
...And enter the apollo 13 replica switch covers...
And some cheap SPST switches to mockup the panel. I can't find good Apollo 13-ish knobs so they may be 3d printed.
Aleph 30 kit. Plenty of room in the chassis.
*note: I don't know why the seller packed the contents in a standard bag, seems odd.

Upcycling old chassis metal is a great thing to do. I'm looking forward to seeing this build come together!! Also, those switch covers are very cool!!!
The reason the Aleph kit goes into a ziplock bag is because I once had an order from one of the big vendors (DK, Mouser, Reichelt?) ship a bunch of stuff not bagged up. The box had a big rip, and I was freaking out about missing parts. So now I use an inner bag in case the outer bubble envelope gets a rip. So far, so good.

If real overkill surely a key for power on is required?
So, it was you! lol Seems like a good solution and definitely not complicated... Unlike this build, it will be grossly complex.Upcycling old chassis metal is a great thing to do. I'm looking forward to seeing this build come together!! Also, those switch covers are very cool!!!

Similar to this part?Or an APU!

Could use a keyed ignition to unlock (dry contact switch) and a momentary switch to trigger the APU to switch on the PSU section.

No, I'm not being serious. Sorry. Can't get rid of the pilot in me.
This will be a must watched thread. Good Luck!

I haven't seen heatsinks yet. Perhaps with that giant APU we're looking at a liquid cooling configuration?!?!?!
Heatsinks?! Preposterous! It will be water cooled!
We will have a key-on though. And the Aleph will be liquid cooled....And I'd like a few flight gauges for good measure (no pun intended).
Lol! That would be pure madness....If only there was enough space.https://www.prattwhitney.com/en/products/auxiliary-power-units

Don't discount it. There are small units available. I used to have available some Solar units.Lol! That would be pure madness....
It would be glorious!!!
I would add some pull-button like this one

@bucks bunny If there's 10-20? volt available, I find it wrong not to place a cigar lighter next to it.
Great Scott! Why didn’t I think of that?!Have you finalized your power supply strategy?
