Agreed. Back in the late 80's, I had to solder a 2 mil gold bonding wire to a solder coated pad, it doesn't work. No matter how tightly or quickly I worked the process, no success. Wire basically went away.

Hey, at least you can see it. Me, pfffft.
As a process development, I had to solder a 3/4 by 1/2 inch copper braid comprised of thousands of low gauge copper wires. to three flat superconducting cables.. I fluxed it, dipped it into a tin/silver solder pot, and the pot consumed about half the braid in a second or so.
whoa..no pre-tinning here...
