Lazy Singing Bush mono block build using THF51s

OK!
What I like with pure freehand is that you can fix the item 100% first and then hit the punch mark.
Now 3, 4mm bits are so small so safety is not a big issue with those bench drill. But with large bits like 10mm or larger then if the bit "dicks" into the item it rotates very fast so you can cut yourself. I have heard that a bench drill can be dangerous tool if the item is not fixed 🙂 But again with 3, 4mm bits it should be ok.

as with many other things, with tool the same - all you need is some mileage

much easier than it looks through forum writings

It’s not that hard to do without a bench drill. The best way to do it is by making the punch mark, drilling it with a smaller bit like a 1.5mm and than drilling it with the 3 or 4mm bit. You don’t need to go full depth with the 1.5mm bit, it’s just to help with the alignment of the bigger bits with the punch mark. That way you will be dead center.
Yes, I have done that before making the punch mark "bigger" by just using a hand drill (pure mechanical) to have full control. Will do that again. The 1.5mm drill bit just have to be longer than the fins of the heat sink 🙂 .....or do you drill from the backside of heatsink? then I need to mark the center line between fins very exactly on the backside.

Oh Sorry I didn’t catch that! I would drill from the back side absolutely! Trying to drill between the fins would just be to risky to snap the 1.5mm if you find one long enough 😆

Ok, a god excuse for new tools.......
I need to mark the center line between fins on backside very exactly.

making babies is much more precise work, and damn everyone is doing it

it helps if you tape sheet of pate on back side, so you can use any pen for drawing
punch, remove paper, drill

practically, you can free hand drill everything, just go first with center drill (say 1.5 or 2mm tip), then with 3mm ( sturdier than thinner ones) then 4.5mm

of course, to get it ditto between ribs on out side, best to use bench-drill

heh, even cheapest ones made in China ( those are cheapest ones, Westerners are greedy enough to make only more expensive ones), 250W motor, drill up to 13mm, drilling height/chuck movement 55mm - are good enough for occasional DIY work

for bigger/more critical things, just use stepped drills, with some nice Schneid-paste, and you're good

if you don't have Schneid-paste, grub some Olive oil from Missus

....

you probably already have that - 5mm drill

There are a lot at the Danish used market. Could also be a possibility.......like this one:
