Hi All.
Working on a Lab Craft Type 605 Scandinavian Turntable and noticed the fine screw which holds the Cartridge to the Head is not long enough.
I suspect partial thread stripping in initial part of the cartridge plate.
The Cartridge includes the Markings "2R2 Japan"
The fine screw has under cap thread length of 5mm.
I'd say it needs 7mm-8mm.
What thread size would this be.
Are such screws common or readily available?

EDIT: So, it just that single centre attachment screw you are talking about.

This is a situation where I would go searching in my enormous collection of screws, both old and new, to find one that fits!
Thanks Galu.
I'm very appreciative of your research time and assistance.
I'll see if I can source a screw cheaply.
I need to be able to offer this turntable to an enthusiast at an affordable price to keep the recycling & repurposing going.

Could it be a Dynavector cartridge? The screws that come with the original DV are non-magnetic, probably some aluminium alloy.
I don't know.Could it be a Dynavector cartridge? The screws that come with the original DV are non-magnetic, probably some aluminium alloy.
It was surprising.
I found when I attempted to screw the cartridge in place the screw length wasn't long enough.
The cartridge is marked 2R2 Japan.
I think if I can find a screw 3mm longer everything will be good.
Thanks Galu.My research reveals this to be a B&O headshell, the one in the centre of the group of three headshells in the attached image.
The only other thing is that the turntable is fitted with what appears to be a headphone jack.
It's important to keep this turntable original.
Is there an adapter I can create to convert Headphone Jack to 2 RCA connectors.
This way I can retain originality but be able to operate the turntable to evaluate its performance.
Thanks.
Cliff, it may be a trick of the photograph, but the connectors/solder joints at the rear of the cartridge look to be very close together, so make sure they aren't touching each other. A new set of cartridge connection wires may be a good idea.
Also, I don't see a stylus in your photos, and the cartridge is unknown, so you are probably going to need a new cartridge.
A possible solution to your problem is offered here: https://www.patsaudioparts.com/single-post/2019/04/28/Garrard-Turntable-M7-Headshell-Mounting-Plate
Although intended for use with the Garrard M6/7 headshell, you could probably utilise this US $15 mounting plate (which uses standard M2.5 screws - as described in the link) to mount a new budget cartridge of AT91 mounting style in your headshell. You would have to rotate the mounting plate through 180 degrees compared to the one in the attachment so that the two cartridge fixing points were in in front of the mounting plate fixing point.
P.S. I would be interested in seeing a photo of the actual turntable and pickup arm.

I made a little edit there: the tracking geometry would be optimised by moving the mounting plate (loosen the single fixing screw) fore or aft in the headshell in accordance with the instructions that come with an inexpensive cartridge stylus alignment protractor.

Perhaps it is as simple as this:
It is M6 screws that are used in the headshell of my vintage Garrard turntable, so your old headshell may utilise the same metric screw size
The outside diameter of the threads of an M6 screw is 6 mm.
Measure the outside diameter of the threads on your mounting screw. If it is not 6 mm then check out the alternative metric screw sizes on the attached identifier.
If you find the matching diameter, you can buy screws of a longer length than required and adjust to the optimum length using a hacksaw.
"Nut screws washer and bolts" as it says in the old joke! 😀

I tell a lie, it is 6BA! Outside thread diameter 0.11" (2.794 mm)
Check the sizes of BA screws here: https://maccmodels.co.uk/ba-size-chart/
Confused, moi? 😗
YOU should know better.vintage Garrard..... I tell a lie, it is 6BA!

Keep pushing and turning until you get a thread you like. 6-32, 8-32, 10-32, all normal 60 degree threads (not 47deg or whatever BA uses).
(For larger jobs: the SexTap! (6-32, 8-32, 10-32, 10-24, 12-24, 1/4-20) https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Bit-Driver-Klein-Tools-32517/dp/B00NH7JUD6/ )

I blame it on the boogie!

Just trying to digest it all.
Thanks for the pointer of the touching cables behind the cartridge. Now adjusted to remove any shorting.
The suggested mounting plate looks the way for the future to allow cartridge upgrades.
Shipping from U.S. is crazy prices but it's a start for my research in tracking down local sources.
I have a 2 RCA to 3.5mm female headphone socket cable , so I've ordered a 3.5mm male to 6.5mm female Adapter which is on its way.
Should take care of connections to regular Amps without damaging the original TT lead.
I'll work on some snaps regarding the turntable itself.
Here are some interim shots.

Don't know that I can eloquently cut such narrow screws & not sure if this pitch is suitable?
Too long, and it can interfere with the cartridge wiring & add to headshell weight.
