Hi Walter,
I don't have much time this days so i'm afraid my amp stays unfinished. I have all the parts, just need some free time. I hope, next month, it will be finished.
Merry christmas everybody!

Attn Parts GB'ers
It APPEARS that I rxed the last of the ordered parts yesterday.
I will inventory, test fit and kit the last few parts over the next couple of days.
They "SHOULD HOPEFULLY" go out next week(fingers crossed).
I do appreciate the patience, and I assure you it was non-profit and you are getting a GREAT deal for your time and patience.

Isn't it nice when the jolly little fat guy is making another pass? Christmas is coming extremly early this year it seems 😀
Great work by the way!
Troy, you have been doing a great job, once again, sorry if any of the trouble was my fault.
Bet you wished you never started this! 🙂
Just in case I don't get back here again, Happy New Year to all you Krell Heads out there!

Al,
wishing you a pleasant ending, thanks for all the work you've done on the 50.
Keep an eye on the G&T, some cats may fancy a marinated mouse on Januari 1st.

It was started for the love of the hobby and to help others. That can never be bad.
Thanks Al, but the whole thing was just way more involving than I had anticipated.
Instead of it being generic parts for two boards it was two different GB's for VERY SIMILAR parts. In fact, mostly the same values, just different sizes.
It just made the whole matter much more involved and that is NOT what I had agreed to in the beginning.
Regardless, the parts are here, I am sorting and kitting the last of them and will again sample test(count parts and make sure they are correct size / value) a couple of kits to ensure they are correct.
I hope to get them all out next week.
These kits will contain everything on the PCB except the output transistors. Oh, and the switch for Jan's summer / winter bias setting.
Troy
I'm not one of the parts group buyers but I realy do appreciate all the efforts you do for this project.

So Al, Where are you off to that you might not come back from.......

Mark
Now't serious mate, I'm just going to be at work all day tomorrow, then partying at my sister's and may not get chance to wish everyone seasons greetings.
Hmm, Krell KSA100, that'll be a new thread then, but once Troy gets his parts buy out then I'm sure we'll fill up another few hundred pages here.
Anyway, I've got to get this finished first or SY will get upset...

Al,
Wow, you've gone from one DC coupled extreme to the other.... what on earth is that thing? Better U than me...I don't like the iron couplers in there......
. I've had ALOT of experience with iron couplers in both broadcast and general audio work over the last 30 years and there's always something lost no matter how good everyone "thinks" theirs are..... Now to lure you to that KSA-100 project of which you are partially equipped for already.......😎 .
Have a Great New Year!
Mark
Oops, I almost forgot... don't stick your pinkies in the wrong place in there.....
Gaborella, I don't know why you haven't got yours yet but mail to Canada has always been very slow for me...... This is the second parcel mailed out in December that has not arrived at it place yet......😕 .

I come from completely the opposite side Mark. In Rock 'n Roll, unlike installs, you never know what problems the venue is going to throw at you, you never have time to troubleshoot, so input iron is the best friend you can ever have!
That project BTW, is a pcb version of SY's Heretical Line Stage, once it's up and running, there will be more info shared.
Oh, and I'll be quite careful with my pinkies, working with 400A 415V 3-phase as I used to teaches you good working practise very quickly.
al/ remembers a neutral dropping on a Sony stand, sounding like a bomb went off...

Agreed! But there sound quality is not"really" an issue........😉 .
I'll tell you some film location horror stories some day about using input transformers.... didn't work, oscillation central...... but the Dolby direct coupled balanced input card did the trick, and sounded better anyway......... The other about the screening room I set up for a film in Houston... next door was a company that welded the tanks for railroad tank cars.... talk about line noise.......

Have a great New Year!

Ouch...That hurts.
Do you believe in numbers?

Al, I was just pullin your leg..... Of course sound matters at a rock concert.....
Do you believe in numbers?
Only the ones on my pay chack.
As far as numbers and audio go there is no real meaningful correlation between them, here numbers only serve as a refrence. The one thing this site has taught me..... listen..... then measure..... then don't worry about the measurements..... just listen.
Its an interesting design and I would certainly try that power supply on the 12B4 when I get time. However I just flat out feel there in no place for coupling iron in high end audio. If the circuit in discussion is for sound reinforcement then thats fine. Indeed as good as they are any tansformer manufacturer will tell you in person that there is always going to be some loss, some distortion gained, and some phase shift, etc. I believe thats ultimately why Deane Jensen designed his op-amp.... his electronic transformer.
Mark
To an extent, I agree, and I have never seen any reason to use anything but electronically balanced outputs, though in Walt Jungs chapter in the Analog Op-amp reference book, he has aa interesting circuit incorporating an output traffo in the feedback circuit of an op amp output stage that I might try one day.
Oh, and here are SS's design decisions on traffo use, and I have to say, I agree with them all! 😉

Yes, I had read that stuff. Its interesting stuff and trafos can definately help with some types of problems. They are just not for me. I think there are other ways it can all be done electronically. At least in location film and cinema sound work that I've been involved with for a long time that has been my experience.
